  8. OOP (undergrad at UofT); Accepted to Halifax campus!! Dal GPA: 4.0 MCAT: 33 ECs: Hospital and community volunteering, peer mentoring, student committees, 2 yrs of research, 5 yrs of lifeguarding and swim instructing, lots of ER shadowing, lots of work with elderly and kids, 17+ yrs of piano, etc. I remember coming out of my interview feeling pretty great. I tried masking my nervousness by going in with a fun, lighthearted attitude and I think that really helped with making a good overall impression. I'm still up on cloud nine even though it's been a few hours since the news. Today has seriously been the best day of my life
  9. Rejection Timestamp: 4:00PM wGPA: 3.97 MCAT: 11/10/12 ECs: Volunteered at various hospital and community organizations, peer mentor, presenter at several elementary schools, ran in organized races, lifeguard and swim instructor for 5 years, 2 years of research (no pubs), etc. Year: UG complete Extremely upset; Queens was my no.1 choice.
  10. Invite! (Mar.31st interview date) Date Stamp: 09:17 AM Location: OOO, IP Stream: English wGPA: 3.94 Current year: UG complete ECs: Volunteered at various hospital and community organizations, peer mentor, presenter at several elementary schools, ran in organized races, lifeguard and swim instructor for 5 years, 2 years of research (no pubs), etc.
  11. Oohhh, didn't see that. Thanks!
  12. I e-mailed admissions and Lucie told me that documents are due Nov.6th at 11:59pm (NOT Nov.5 at 11:59pm). Just to clear things up
  13. OOP Invite Dal GPA: 4.0 MCAT: 33 ECs: I tried to show that I was well-rounded; did lots of hospital volunteering, clinical research, lab research (no pubs), lots of volunteering in my community for various organizations, exec for a major club at my university for 2 years, worked as a swim and lifesaving instructor for 5 years and lifeguard for 4.5 years, running in organized races, etc. Edit: I've never been to the East Coast but I did mention a friend who went to Dal for undergrad. I also described a few experiences that have inspired me to pursue medicine in different ways. I made sure to demonstrate the fact that I did lots of research into Dal's medical program and went from there. Can't wait to meet many of you at interviews!!
  14. Nope Judging from last year's posts, interview invites were sent out on October 24th so I guess we can expect e-mails around then?
  15. Thanks for the reply! I ended up using the SAM tool and asking about whether they even confirm receipt of IB transcripts. The rep who replied said that they don't on the app status page, but that they had received and sent my IB transcript off already to UOttawa.
  16. For those of you who sent in an IB transcript, does your OMSAS verification tool confirm receipt of it? I seem to be able to only check for receipt of my UofT transcript, but the IBO sent my transcript out in late July. Should I be worried?
  17. If I have a balanced MCAT of 33 as an OOP, do I have little to no chance of an interview at USaskatchewan? Should I even bother applying?
  18. Anyone else release their MCAT scores and not have a confirmation of receipt on their application summary? I released my scores just over week ago and the release status is complete according to THx but my Dal account says otherwise. I thought my account would be updated by now, especially since it indicated that I paid the application fee a few hours after I called in.
  19. Did you pay the $70.00 fee online immediately after Step 1? If not, you have until Sept. 9 to pay over the phone or by mail. I think it should indicate if you paid in your application summary.
  20. Personally I didn't list the same experience twice in different categories, but it sounds like if you took a first aid course for work, you could list that as a separate entry under "medical experience". Though I would do that only if you're lacking in that category.
  21. Thanks for letting us know! I guess Carolyn never had a chance to get back my e-mail .
  22. I've e-mailed Carolyn asking her to clarify but I assumed the deadline was at 11:59:59pm on Sept 1st. I'll let you all know what she says when she replies.
  23. DCML

    July 26th MCAT?

That's an amazing jump in VR. Congrats on the score!!
  24. DCML

    July 26th MCAT?

I just checked my July 26 scores too and ended up with a 10 in VR. Not the 11 I was hoping for but I'm happy with it (after getting a 9 last time). Obviously I'm no VR expert but I started practicing for VR in May, choosing random opinion papers online to read. After every paper, I tried to summarize the main idea and recall what the author's main arguments were. Concurrently, I completed all the passages in both Examkrackers VR books (the thin prep one with lots of good advice on strategy + the thick book with 14 full VR tests). I started off completing a few tests without setting a timer, just to get a feel for the passage lengths, questions, and format. I then started timing myself for the latter tests and made sure I knew why I was making mistakes by studying the answer key. In my last 2 weeks of MCAT prep, I did 3 AAMC tests just for the VR practice. How much did you practice for VR? What strategies did you use during the real exam? I found that quickly scribbling down whether the passage was a compare + contrast piece, an editorial, informative essay, or argumentative passage really helped frame my thinking. I also wrote down my impressions of the author as quickly as I could for the harder passages (ie: art history professor? scientist? philosopher? environmentalist?) and went from there. So knowing your scores, are you planning on re-writing?
