  1. I had six work terms as an undergraduate student. Took one off for personal reasons and still qualified for wGPA. It's good that you sent an email though because you should always have something in writing in case something happens.
  2. This. I think the total number might include incomplete applications (eg. late LOR) as well, but don't quote me on this.
  3. As someone with an engineering degree starting medical school in about a month, it’s awesome seeing engineering students interested in medicine. However, I agree with everything NotASerialKiller said. You just finished first year of engineering and you have all the time in the world to explore the world of engineering. To be honest, I’m kind of surprised that you already made the financial and time commitments to take the prerequisite courses this summer. Take the time to see if engineering is right for you. Also, take the time to see if medicine/dentistry is right for you. Then choose the one that fits your personality and career goals. Speaking from experience, these experiences will give the admission committee a much more convincing story of why you want to be a physician. I think people tend to forget that GPA and MCAT might get you the interview, but you need your academics balanced with your personal aspects to actually get into medical schools. Med school or no med school, high GPA shouldn’t hurt you. So my personal recommendation is for you to explore your options and to have a competitive GPA especially if you are planning on attending a Canadian med school.

  5. Hey guys. I want to ask if anyone knows whether the initial acceptance is sent out to exactly 259 successful applicants or if more acceptance is sent out knowing that not everyone is going to accept the offer. Trying to figure out if it's [259 Acceptances + x waitlist] or [(259+y) Acceptances + x waitlist]. Thanks!
  6. Ah...anyone..? btw forgot to include the Ottawa link on my previous post: http://www.med.uottawa.ca/Students/MD/Admissions/eng/detailed_autobiographical_sketch.html
  7. Thanks thsc. Also one more question...for Research, OMSAS says "Specify your education level, ie: 1st year of university and the title of the project. Indicate the type of publications: paper, abstract and presentation at a scientific meeting etc., accepted or published with a reference, but not submitted or in preparation." yet Ottawa website ( "Specify your education level, i.e.: 1st year of university and the title of the project. Indicate the type of publications: paper, abstract and presentation at a scientific meeting etc., accepted or published with a reference, submitted or in preparation." I have one paper submitted to a peer-reviewed journal...should I include this one or take out from ABS??
  8. Hi everyone, Just wanted to ask how I should present my research employment.. I finished undergrad. Employed full-time as a research staff. No publications to include under research but I wanted to include this experience under Employment and as a Research experience. Does anyone know if this is allowed? And if this isn't allowed...then would including this as an Employment and including Abstract or Poster presentation under Research be allowed? Thanks!

TIME STAMP: 11:55am Jan 31st 2014 Result: Reject GPA: 3.95 (engineering co-op program, so UWO might've considered different terms as my 2 best years but should be between 3.94 and 3.96) MCAT: BS and VR below cut off (By 2 and 1 respectively) ECs: - 1 year of work experiences through co-op (2 companies) - 1 year of full-time research as undergrad, no publication (again through co-op) - community volunteering - sports (soccer, softball) Year: Completed UG SWOMEN? : No Did not think BS cutoff would go up by 2 from to last year..dang
  11.
