noneed2live got a reaction from very_hopeful_dent_2022 in how useful is the ODA memership?
    Hi all,
I'll be going into my first year at u of t dental and was emailed information about getting an ODA membership for $220.
For those who have had more experience throughout dental school in Ontario, how useful really is the ODA membership?

As someone directly involved in the interview process, I would not only lighten up a bit but also be a bit careful with your tact which may come off as a red flag on interview day.

Generally speaking, it seems most people really struggled with this DAT in regards to the PAT and RC sections.
i smell a massive bell curve.

P.s. dat crusher’s RC is not representative at all lol. However, kudos to them for having a practice passage which was almost identical to passage 2 on RC.

extremely difficult question to answer because every pool varies slightly. Just sit tight and wait for scores. No use in pondering what you need now  you did your best and all you can do now is wait for the scores to come out around Christmas time! After you have those, you will know roughly whether or not you will get an interview! take it easy for now.

Last year I had  20AA 19 PAT and I received an interview. You should definitely apply!!

I'd suggest looking at past interview stats for UofT to get an idea of what score you need to get an interview with your GPA. My best guess is 20+ AA and 18+ PAT should be enough but you never know (depends on the applicant pool). For UWO, ABS and PS comes into play so GPA and DAT are only two components of the application for the interview. However, you'd need a minimum 19 RC to get an interview at UWO and this year they may look at PAT so their process is changing. Honestly, you should just wait it out now and not fret over it! Last year, there were many people in the same situation who felt PAT/RC were tough and still ended up with good scores to get interviews. I had a 16 PAT and got a decent amount of interviews and acceptances so don't worry!

noneed2live got a reaction from hopefuldentist22 in Canadian DAT most time-efficient RC method
There are several thread out there with RC strategies for the 60 minute American DAT RC section.
That said, there isn't much discussion regarding what strategy to use to account for the reduced time in the Canadian DAT RC section.
so Far, I've used Search and Destroy, passage mapping, and the vanilla method (just reading and answering), but all seem to make it tough to complete a passage in 15-17 minutes
    What do you guys recommend?
Also, are the passages for the Canadian DAT RC section shorter than those for the American DAT RC section?

noneed2live got a reaction from ThatMedGyal in Parents Don't Want Me To Live Near Medical School But Commute Instead
I recently been accepted to Toronto Medical School. My parents are very restrictive and don't understand that I need to live near the school during the next 4 years, but they would rather have me commute 1 hr back and forth. I know I can eventually get them to be on my side, but they keep bringing up the fact that I am going to be heavily in debt. How can I convince them without having to bicker back and forth between them? Any suggestions?

Essays: Spend a lot of time on these. I swear it's my Essays that made them want to see me, I got them reviewed many many times, had many revisions.
Interview: To be honest I think the best advice I can give about this is that SHOW YOUR PERSONALITY and don't be a robot. They want to see how you think about the answer, not so much about how you articulate your answer. So I remember, in the last station I thought I bombed so bad, but I guess not. One station I ended in 7 minutes, and had 5 minutes to spare - I should have said more, but I was speaking too fast. Trust me - show your personality, smile when you walk in, laugh, joke around if you think there is an opportunity. Interviewers were SUPER SUPER NICE. I was thining I wasn't going to get in because of the interview, and believe me, if I thought I did well I would say it, but I think I did average in interview.
