Lol this is kind of sexist towards men and imo a little disturbing that some physicians think that way. I completely understand empathy is important in medicine but I think it is much more important for a physician to be clinically competent and advance the medical field than being empathetic. No amount of fuzziness and empathy will cure bacterial infections and cancer patients. Plus we need people who are empathetic in medical school but we also need people who took challenging courses in undergrad and want to make new medical advances (whether this person is a man or woman is completely irrelevant)

I wonder what all of your opinions would be on the tech industry? This forum seems to have a thing for women. The same things can be said for men, there are a lot of men that take advanced courses in the tech industry and work really hard, why should there be seats specfically for women in these fields? And not for men when it comes to med school?

Men IMO, are also more inclined towards tech because "FACTS DONT CARE ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS" kind of attitude of tech, the computer doesnt care about you, or show any emotions, many women would not be able to endure this, by the same logic. Why are people loosing sleep over women in tech then?

There are studies out there that also show, that on general, men are better suited for the tech field and workplace than women.

True equality is when the same rules are applied everywhere.

But from this thread, it appears that CMGs do not match fine and are unsatisfied with their career choices after residency as well. Wouldn't applying to US residencies help guarantee you get a position (or a speciality you want) and a job south of the border after training?

How about using the USMLEs. It is a well established exam used in the US, and it is graded on a curve... I highly doubt "all" CMGs are academically gifted, there are IP advantages, students who get high CARS but lower in sciences and students who had easy undergrads. I think the USMLEs will definitely be a well-recognised, well established exam to use.

All we know is what med admissions office says: keep waiting until you hear. Your application is valid all the way til April 8th or whenever they send you a rejection letter which is probably the case for 99% ppl still waiting including myself.
Also, please direct these comments to appropriate thread not this one. Not meaning to be picky but for people who are still waiting, any activity on invites/rejects thread causes a mini heart attack..

Nobody knows for sure. I think they're assumed to be the same. They will take whatever is higher, and a cGPA of 3.75 probably makes the cutoff. With a Masters degree they are more lenient on your GPA (how much/exactly how that plays out is unknown). As far as your GPA goes, I'd say it's worth it to apply!

but if you're counting this as a wave aren't we still one less than recent years? I mean its possible that the remaining are reserves or rejections but I would say they still aren't done review- tomorrow and friday will provide more clarity- at that point its more reasonable to assume the waves are done

I called the admissions office and inquired about any leftover interview spots. I was told that the detailed file reviews are still ongoing at this point and thus, there are still interview spots to be filled accordingly. Not really sure if that means we can expect another wave or if there are just indicidual spots left. But the way the response was worded, I'm hopeful for at least one more wave. I was also told that more invites and rejections will be sent out up until the end of March. So I guess for those of us still waiting to hear back, there is hope and we will have to continue to hold our breath for now.
