  2. Hey everyone! At least one spot has opened up I have accepted another offer. Hope this helps! - HI
  3. Hi Stats! 2) You don't. However, I made it a point to interview with a couple potential supervisors prior to my interview. This, in particularly, was helpful for the UBC interview. It also, in my opinion, helps streamline the matching process. Also, it gives you an idea of the labs at the university. Also something to write and talk about in your applications and interview, respectively. I gleaned that this was not the 'norm' from other applicants based on those I talked to during the interviews. 1) I did have a fairly strong research background (though this is relative). My research has been in applied and environmental microbiology. I hold a MSc and have worked as microbiologist in the government for 2 years. A couple publications and a number of conferences round out my research background. Hope this helps!
  4. For those who might benefit from this information (present and future): uOttawa has released their acceptances for the MD/PhD program (Monday, March 4th). Interviews were held mid-late February. There were around 8-10 applicants interviewed for roughly 4 spots. We (or at least I) have until March 13th to confirm, or reject, the acceptance. Congrats to those who got accepted! I hope this might help those curious about the program in terms of interview/acceptance dates.
  5. Hi Economisto, In case you haven't found your answer: I received acceptance earlier last week into the MD/PhD program at UBC (what was termed 'early acceptance'). According to the email this was both an acceptance to the PhD and MD (i.e., both committees confirmed an acceptance after reviewing my file). For further information: We were informed acceptances were to be delivered between February and April. I would imagine this means that there will be no need to send an additional letter in May. Hope this helps! HI

Year: completed masters ; working research scientist IP/OOP/International: OOP Letters of reference: Yes Hard pill to swallow after so many kicks at the can. 12. Ditto! === Time stamp: Thursday, March 15, 12:51 PM Result: Regrets GPA: 3.95 MCAT: met cutoffs ECs: Varied! See previous posts. Essays: Worked on them for a few weeks! Year: Finished MSc in 2016. Working research scientist. Geography: IP It's worked out for the MD/PhD stream at other schools for me but posting for stats reasons. Just goes to show that interviews elsewhere do not guarantee interviews somewhere else. Nor does being competitive in one stream (MD/PhD) equate to being competitive in another (MD). The process is a random one too. Good luck to everyone! Don't give up.
  13. In the same boat as Darkpassenger as a waitlister at other schools (Queens, uOttawa and Mac). It'll be exciting to see some movement the next couple of weeks as people make decisions.
  14. In case you haven't checked - acceptances / waitlist emails dropped this evening. That was a quick turnover!
  15. I wouldn't be able to confirm either which way unfortunately. While I do not know the applicant total, there were 18 people invited for interview and 2-3 accepted this year (with a wait-list of unknown size and ranking). Whether this means MCAT cutoffs vary for receiving an interview would be at best conjecture. My personal opinion is that they keep the same MCAT cutoffs - for consistencies sake. Those not accepted to the MD/PhD program will have their score transferred for consideration with the MD stream; results being released in May. It would make sense they would want to have everyone evaluated with the same cutoffs, this in mind. But, again, this is my opinion and reasoning.
