  1. Personally, I think experiences, hobbies, and passions are more important than academic awards. Two cycles ago, my Awards section was filled with major scholarships. Last cycle, I didn't include any of them in my Life Experiences section.
  2. Definitely fill out all 4 entries in the Life Experiences section. What do you define as a "minor thing"? Generally, I wouldn't be afraid to put something that is not long term on the application.
  3. Cool, I didn't know we have a Facebook page already! Make sure that your ualberta.ca email is connected to your Facebook and you joined the UAlberta Community
  4. Result: Accepted. (After 2 rejections and one waitlist, I can't believe I'm finally writing that!) Geography: IP GPA: 3.89 MCAT: 511 Degree: BSc; MPH E.C: Strong on employment (worked in private, non-profit, government, and university settings), strong on leadership (long term, being responsible for a large number of people, starting initiatives), relatively weak on volunteering (one hospital-based, others through the university helping various student demographics; some long-term, but not too many hours), strong on life experiences (two based on life-long passions, one based on a desire to learn, one based on a desire to bring change). Interview: I was not very happy with my performance, but perhaps I was judging myself too harshly. Congratulations to those accepted, patience to those waitlisted, and strength to those who didn't get in this time!
  5. Thanks for the help! Also, good thing the technical error was caught.
  6. Quick question. Will a reviewer see both of your essays at the same time?
  7. The deadline to respond to the offer will not be earlier than May 15th.
  8. You could ask Dr. Walker if you want to find out if this is the case: http://mdadmissions.ucalgaryblogs.ca
  9. Thanks! Looks similar to last year's averages
  10. Yep, someone usually posts them on here each year.
  11. Silly question: do we shake hands with the interviewers at the beginning/end of the interview? I have no experience with panels...

  13. On the website, it says: "Following the interview, preliminary rank order lists are prepared based on the assessment of the autobiographical sketch, the WGPA and interview (a poor interview may not be ranked)" It looks like the ABS is also a factor
  14. Invite!!! Time Stamp: 29/01/2018 - 5:3X PM Location: OOP Stream: French (OOP (not QC)) wGPA: 3.8X Current year: Masters ECs: Very diverse Casper: I thought it was tough, but I did my best to show who I really was. I used a lot of personal/professional experiences.
  15. Thanks guys! "Félicitation! - Statut de demande d'admission - Faculté de médecine, Université d'Ottawa"
  16. Hello everyone, As we are approaching the exciting time of interview invites, it is a good idea to start practicing! I would like to invite all serious applicants (with or without previous MMI experience) to join this new group. The idea is to have multiple groups of 3 that share a Google Team Drive. The Team Drive will be used to compile the resources, practice questions, advice, etc. We will break into groups by the end of this week and start practicing regularly next week. In the middle of our interview preparation period (few weeks in; TBD), we will create new groups so we will be able to practice with new people. If interested, please send me a direct message ASAP
  17. Chatting with this person can help you in gaining some perspective on what it's like to be a physician, what qualities are important to possess, etc. This could be useful in the interviews and essays. As for the reference, this ophthalmologist's accomplishments will not give you an advantage.
