Providing assistance with UBC MD application

Posted in the other thread but wanted to let people who stumble across this know that I don't mind helping people with application editing if Canadian_Med_Dream has already had 15 people come for help! I also applied broadly last year and had no interviews. This cycle my GPA + MCAT were the same but I redid my descriptions for UBC and other schools and had 8 interviews with 3 offers. I'm also not doing much this summer so I'd like to be useful if I can. I will try and help as many people as I can depending on time etc. but I do have a lot of time haha.

  3. I know the UBC med magazine fall edition typically has the list at the end but the online available ones only go till 2015/2016 or something like that.

    Transcript Dilemma! Advice!

So you need to submit all grades/transcripts for med apps but for what its worth, I took a few summer courses at a diff school during my undergrad and never got around to transferring the credits to my original school and it was never an issue. However, this was the summer after my first year at my original school and I technically acquired a letter of permission to do so. In your case, if you just submitted both transcripts, I doubt anyone would question it and you're not really hiding any grades from your professional school apps. School 2 probably wouldn't be too happy if they found out you didn't submit school 1's transcript when you applied for your transfer but you've already got your degree and its in the past now.
  5. Yeah, I'm curious about this as well ...
  6. My advisor said the acceptance email was enough to complete the process and release all funds. Just that I have to get a proof of enrolment letter to him within 30 days afterwards.
  7. So Scotia also gives the Amex Gold which would give another 150$ equivalent if you spend $1000 in the first 90 days. So the fees waived on the Passport Infinite and Amex Gold are about 240$ a year combined. The passport infinite also comes with free lounge access which has a value of about $260 per year. If you don't travel that doesnt mean much but we'll all have to travel quite a bit for electives+interviews later on and if you fly once a year or so you're still getting value. That adds up like you said. They also provided unlimited e-transfers when I asked. If I add it up that way Scotia would be +$1680 saved in credit card fees +$1000 (saved in bank account fees) + [not confirmed] $100 (rewards or scene points) + (alot of value with lunge access depeding on how often you travel)

    Transcripts received?

    Mine hasn't changed
  9. I also emailed Cindy but she was initially offering the Scotia Gold Passport card instead of the Scotia Passport Visa Infinite
  10. Jordan at Scotia was great!

    Queens or UofT MAM

Sorry, just curious which school you go to since you mentioned you're not at UofT? You seem to know quite a bit about UofT which is why I ask (respectfully)

Interesting Program Directors Take on CARMS

Could you expand a bit on how UBC's is more meaningful? Are there any pieces of info they provide that separate them from the rest?

    Use Of Extracurricular Activities?

Out of curiosity, can I ask what you did focus on when choosing candidates? Would publications or reference letters be more important?

    Don't know what to do

Im in the exact same situation with an offer from UBC and Mac's Waterloo Campus. I did my undergrad at UBC and my friends and family are all here so that was enough to sway me. But I personally think BC is fantastically beautiful and amazing in general which often makes up for the cost. In terms of connections here, you will def find a good friend group at UBC very quickly, we are very friendly. For me the other big issue is that I don't know what I want and I may want something competitive which makes UBC's program a much better personal choice.
  18. I think 1st year is mostly at UBC and then 2nd year is mostly at VGH

    Rejection thoughts and MCAT retake?

If you constantly check the website, spots do tend to open up in Vancouver. I initally had July 20 or something around there and got a spot for Aug 21 in early july instead

    McMaster Waitlist Party

Timestamp was 9:18 am! Will be withdrawing this offer as I got my first choice of UBC! Hopefully one of you will get an email on Monday for it!

    McMaster Waitlist Party

Just got an offer of the waitlist for WRC! However, I will likely decline it if UBC sends an offer today
  22. Not everyone is gonna be as non-malicious as you think. Best to give enough info if sharing ECs for useful feedback but nothing super-identifiable. I think, in general, just tread on the safe side. For EC descriptions, I just shared with friends for feedback and that worked really well

    Waitlist Support Thread - 2018

Yup, I agree, I think they probably still have similar numbers of people in each bin but instead of going from 4.0 -> 3.9 it might go down from 4.0 -> 3.8 in a bin for example which means that a low GPA is not necessarily a death sentence.
