  1. I have never heard of that happening

    Is my MCAT sufficient?

    most likely yes!
  3. helicase

    Competitive GPA?

    It is a cutoff tho
  4. helicase

    Competitive GPA?

they actually copied and pasted quite a bit from the old website.
  5. dw verifiers being contacted and interview offers are definitely not correlated

    UBC vs McGill Medical School

Lol at least wait til you have interviews. If you’re confident you’ll get them then I’d spend this time practicing for those.
  7. helicase

Sounds very cool, and I'd say competitive. Make sure you write your ABS well.

    Competitive GPA?

That's definitely competitive. It's a cutoff, not ranked.

    Reference letter due date

November 1st! Just make sure the info is on OMSAS, and email has been sent before Oct 1
  10. I too just met with them similar to @Monkey D. Luffy. I did not give them explicit instructions re page length or anything.

    Queens ABS

You are probably overthinking this. Think about who you are and the activities you're displaying and how they represent the qualities that you want to display as representative of yourself as a future doctor.

    MCAT Cutoff???

    You should be good!

    MCAT Cutoff???

126 seems to be the cutoff based on recent cycles, but no harm in trying!
  14. It’s awesome that’s youre interested in medicine so early! There is really no wrong way to go with extra curriculars, do stuff that interest you that you would consider continuing and growing in for the long term. Leadership is another great thing to develop in your senior high school years. Make sure you keep your grades up but also have fun and keep your interests open you may end up liking something more than med!
  15. UBC’s app has an early deadline, OMSAS does not.

    Rate my ECs?

It's not a red flag that you don't have employment. It's really hard to rate your EC's outside of the admissions committee- just focus on spending time writing your descriptions with action words and reference to the canmeds roles and hope for the best!

    Queens MCAT

Less than a 508 is definitely pushing it. I mean if the application fee isn't an issue and you're applying other places anyway, might as well give it a shot but I don't think I've seen lower than a 508. You never know though and cutoffs may change year to year.

    Very Low GPA

What is your GPA breakdown, do you have an upward trend at all? What is your EC situation like, other than hospital volunteering? What is it about medical school that particularly interests you over other careers in health care like PT, RN, PA, NP etc?

    Chances?? (desperate)

I'd always recommend applying to Queen's if you are likely to meet the GPA/MCAT cutoffs (which you are). Nobody here can tell you how your EC's will be evaluated so it's always worth an app.

    Queens MCAT

Yes, someone got in with a 508 two cycles ago. Your score definitely seems like it'd be above cutoffs.

    Queens MCAT

The minimums are unknown. That being said, 125 seems to be the minimum for the sciences, 126 seems to be the minimum for CARS. Overall, a safe total is 510, but 508 has been seen in the last 2 cycles.
  22. Oh I see. Hard to say I guess. If it's true I'd imagine it to not be weighed too too much, there are a lot of examples of high GPA/MCAT combo that don't interview. The wording on their website isn't super clear anyway, I mean they still haven't updated their FAQ from when getting an interview was just based GPA and MCAT years ago.
  23. https://meds.queensu.ca/academics/undergraduate/prospective-students/applying/method-selection They updated their website now, but I remember it stating on the old website that candidates were evaluated based on 'sequential steps' and that after you progressed past those stages GPA/MCAT didn't matter. I guess like yes it theoretically could have changed, but I'm more inclined to believe the cutoffs. They get over 5000 applications every cycle. It makes sense that hard cuts help reduce the pool

    Only write CARS?

Definitely will affect your chances at US schools as they care about rewrites. Most Canadian schools take your latest/best scores as far I'm aware, and yes people have done that in the past and have gotten into mac. If you don't mind the potential time/cost of a rewrite then you could try. You also may know more than you think in the sciences- look through some prep books, taking the corresponding classes may not be necessary.
  25. So interview selection is done in sequential steps. First they cut down the applicant pool based on an unknown wGPA/cGPA threshold. Then they cut down based on an MCAT threshold. Finally, they select top ~500 for an interview based on ABS/LORs of ~2000 applicants. This is why people talk about 'cutoffs' for GPA and MCAT, but once you make it past those cuts, they don't matter anymore. Just based on your wGPA and MCAT, you will likely make it to the ABS stage.
