I say go for it. I’m 35 and just starting residency. Life is singular, and limited. Spend it pursuing your dreams. Life hard man. Good luck

its difficult to know the meaning of this because you are blind to the admission results in your specific instance. Ei, were you a special admit under the alternative admissions pathway because in some important way you were identified by the admissions committee.

I would recommend re-writing. The spread in CARS scores is greater than spread in GPA. You potentially have more points to earn by increasing your CARS score than your overall GPA, with probably considerably less work. Of course, it can be argued that CARS is traditionally the hardest score to improve so YMMV

It depends on the academic center. The handoff point in patient care is culturally defined and differs for each center. Many large centers do significantly more than just the initial work up. Some barely even do an initial work up.

I’m not even sure which was first. By the time I went to the email, I had one. They are probably nearly simultaneous events.

Congratulations! I just received one as well. On my UCAN status it says "Offered Admission" but I don't see the "Offer" tab as per the email. When I logged in there was a pop-up window with no text, just the word "accept" that I had to press in order to get into UCAN. Anyone else have the same experience?

I think they will send them out when they are done and they have finalized the lists. I don’t think they wait for a “Tuesday” because it’s Tuesday.

For those who do not match today, please do not give up.
Please feel free to PM me, and ask for help from your medical education office for extra year of research & clinical rotations.
Having had friends who went unmatched, I understand how the CaRMS unmatch result could take a toll on someone's life and make you doubt yourself and withdraw from your group of friends.
Hang in there and stay strong!

MountainAmoeba reacted to bruh in Really struggling with the Top 10s
I got an interview last year with a 123 in CARS from Calgary (I'm IP). My overall MCAT is also very low. So my Top 10 must have been strong to make up for the very low MCAT.
I only skimmed through the CANMeds. What I did was write 10 stories that impacted me each in a specific way. In the description section I was very specific with exactly what I did and what my responsibilities were. In the impact section I wrote a story and attempted a narrative with very little regard to CANmed competencies. I talked about what I really gained from each experience (i.e., how I learned I could make a difference before medical school, or why I really want to pursue medicine, etc.). I think conveying what it felt like and what it taught you to be a leader is a lot more effective than repeatedly saying "I learned to be a leader, blah blah".
Also, there is no one way to write the Top 10. I bet you there was someone who used CANMeds as a bible, and someone who didn't use it at all and still got an invite. What it really comes down to is how much does that person like you, and thinks you're fit for a career as a doctor. Can you put yourself in the shoes of the adcom, reading your own essay and going "wow, this guy really deserves an interview at the least".? Those are my own thoughts writing the top 10 usually.

I would argue that it's really only about how you reflect on the experience. You can learn a lot from success, but often more from failure. Any experience that's meaningful to you has the potential of being a good top 10 entry. Just relate your experience to the canmeds roles in your top 10.

MountainAmoeba got a reaction from Akaoooooo in Intellectual Curiosty without Research Experience?
I think you can demonstrate intellectual curiosity without taking about academics. You will have to think hard about how to demonstrate that with your current top ten. Ask what does it mean to demonstrate curiosity? How can you show that? You probably already have that, but you probably failed to demonstrate it.

My preference is an I-pad pro. It makes it easy to manage my notes in notability, and then split screen. I can cut out figures and tables from the notes and import them into my notes super easily. A lot of people prefer the surface pro, or laptop computer. If you really like writing the I-pad pro with the apple pencil does the best job of recreating the writing experience compaired to other interfaces (just at a price premium). Other wise the surface pro is an awesome device that people seem to enjoy using.
