Find a place where you're not going to be interrupted by other people, then start small talk etc, show you're interested.. then when the silence hits, tell her you have a 4.0 GPA and 132 CARS. She'll ask you for your number

I just wanted to leave the waitlistees who haven't been accepted anywhere with some words of encouragement. I know exactly how it feels to be in your position. I never got off of Queen's waitlist last cycle. All of you that had the opportunity to interview should be very proud of yourselves. It truly is an accomplishment to reach this stage considering the incredible competition. My advice is to take a few days to grieve. After that get working on your apps for the next cycle. Analyze your application and see where you can improve (interview skills, ECs, etc.) and give it another shot. Despite being in 3 cycles I have yet to matriculate and am still determined to do so. Let me serve as an example of the tenacity that this process demands. Hopefully the upcoming cycle will be the one. Good luck to all.

Result: Accepted to Windsor campus (Normal Waitlist)
Time stamp: June 6th 2017, not sure what time the call came as it went to my dad... I'm currently out of the country!
    2yr GPA: 3.97
    MCAT: 129/130/130/129
ECs: A variety of activities that I am passionate about that... Most centered around advocacy and leadership.
Interview: I'm really not sure. I felt great about it afterwards, but my other interviews didn't go so well.
    Geography: non-SWOMEN (OOP)
    Year: Just graduated from B.Eng.
Had a long discussion with my partner today about what we were going to do for the next year. Then we came across wifi and I had numerous messages from my parents and a very surprising email in my inbox. I cried and cried and cried. I'm incredibly thrilled and feel so very lucky. Can't wait to meet the rest of the class!
Those who are still waiting or planning for next year, do not give up! If it's what you want you will make it happen.

Personal opinion here - no it is not too old and there well be a bunch of people in the class in that age range. I was older when I started as well so I am biased, ha.
Objectively the odds of not getting residency is around 3%. It is possible that is what is worrying you but probably not directly . It is probably just....a day the universe changed moment, and your life right now is probably not that bad so change implies risk.
It is completely natural to feel a sudden - "what have I gotten myself into" - a feel that will repeat itself many times during medical training (you want me to put what.....where?)
it passes. You get used to the idea. Big changes are hard but it is something you can do.
In ways you cannot grasp now you will not be alone this process and you will find new and different types of strength as well to guide you through (because no one can understand really somethings, unless they do them no matter how powerful their imagination is). You can do this and it almost certainly will work out.
and congrats by the way and welcome to the profession.

    You mean high WL?

A significant number of High WL applicants have not gotten a call, so it is surprising that you somehow got off the Normal WL before anyone else reported getting off any WL at all.

    cGPA: 3.94

    CARS 127

Interview: Came out thinking it was probably my strongest interview but I also think it is harder to tell how you did in an MMI interview compared to a panel

    Year: 4th

    Result: High wait list
    wGPA: 3.95
    MCAT: 128/129/130/128
Interview: I thought the panel was super friendly and we had a lot of laughs throughout the interview, but I was very disappointed in the quality of my answers. I felt like I was charismatic, but what came out of my mouth was pure garbage. Kind of like when you see a really attractive person, but then they start talking and it turns out they're dumb af.
    Year: 4th year
    Geography: non-SWOMEN
Will be removing myself from the wait list and going to Queen's, hopefully someone on here from the normal wait list will get this spot! It's been a pleasure posting you with you guys

Thank you everyone!!! You guys have been so supportive - it's a bit mind blowing. As for the big news: I was accepted!

Although this is a really great success for me, I just want to emphasize that I didn't have an insane cathartic moment. Sure there will be transient happiness with good news, but your true source of happiness starts way before that. So for those of you who are in the same position I was in last year - please please please don't feel demoralized. You have the opportunity to do great things outside of medicine. Work hard for your career, but don't neglect your personal lives. This year was amazing for me, and I worked hard to be happy with my personal life. So this is just the cherry on top.

I want to direct you guys to this thread, which I think does a good job of conveying this from current medical students:

    http://forums.premed101.com/index.php?/topic/95056-what-would-you-have-done-differently/

TL;DR I didn't have a magical cathartic moment by getting this acceptance. The acceptance isn't a magical gateway to happiness. So those of you who haven't gotten in yet, don't feel as if you can't be happy in the meanwhile and during your re-applications.

Sorry if this sounded a bit convoluted, but I am just in a break during work and wanted to update all you awesome people!!

Thanks again for all the love!!

Still pretty shocked. It feels surreal to have been invited for an interview by 4/4 schools so far (Queen's, Western, Ottawa, and Mac)! Still waiting on my last school - UofT (but not holding my breath ). Much of the guidance I received in navigating my journey to medicine came from these forums. I really feel like this place is a great equalizer - those who aren't fortunate enough to have friends/family within the system are not severely disadvantaged. We get a diversity in our applicants rather than a socially reproduced homogeneous pool. And I realize how important this forum is in contributing to that. So I will try my best to continue this trend of guidance and support. Thank you all for all the support and guidance you provided me with. I will still be around these parts, but definitely hope to update this thread with good news in May!
