  1. Hello, So I am in second year and in my second term I am only taking one second year course (I am supposed to take two, but I am moving one to next semester). The other three electives are all first year courses (Econ, Soc and Phil). I haven't decided on the fourth course yet. Do you think this will be an issue (I know there are some schools that require you to take 3 out of 5 credits that are at your year level). Overall I will take six courses at my year level in year two. Also, does anybody have any recommendations for the fourth course (I'm thinking of taking an English literature, law, public speaking or history course). I go to UW btw.

  3. Thank you so much! Perfect answer! The only issue is, I haven't done too well in the science course I have taken till date, so should I take more science courses to make up for that. I still need to take human phys and genetics as a part of my degree.
  4. Thank you so much for replying. You gave a very good answer! I have taken a semester of general bio and chem and I have also taken biochemistry (I didn't do to well in them though). I will take physiology and genetics in the future. Do you think this will suffice? I really don't want to take organic chem an (I will take gen chem 2 in the future). I have taken one English course do you recommend I take another? Also, I am thinking of taking bio courses that I am interested in and that I think I can do well in in the future (such as embryology).
  5. I know that courses such as general bio and chem, organic chem, etc are needed, but how many science courses are needed in total. I am a health studies student and am trying to plan out my electives. Science isn't my strongest in university so I don't want to take courses if I don't need to. Also, from how my course schedule is looking, I will be taking a lot of science courses in third and fourth year, do you think this will be an issue when it comes to med schools looking at my GPA. As well, if I take courses during my summers, will that be looked down upon, especially if they're taken from a different university. Sorry I know I asked a lot of questions, thanks in advance!
  6. I need to talk to some about my grades/university career in general. If you are able to please pm me. Thanks
  7. Hello isitlunchtimeyet, Thank you so much for replying! That is what I was thinking of doing. I do not have any summers because I am in co-op, but I am thinking of taking my chemistry courses during the co-op term at alternative schools. During the second semester I think I just worked a lot more harder. I was completing assignments before, asking questions, etc, but I also think I got lucky because I had easier courses during that semester (two seminar based courses). However, I am finding that my current method of studying is not working as I am going into upper years. This previous semester I did not do as well as I would have liked.
  8. Hey guys, So I currently have a 3.47 GPA (3.03 first semester GPA, 3.96 second semester GPA and 3.42 third semester GPA). My first year GPA was overall a 3.5. Science courses tend to be my weak point. I got a 61 in general chemistry 1, a 69 in general biology and a 70 in biochemistry. The only Cs I have gotten have been in first year science courses. I am currently in a co-op term and I plan on focusing my next semester (spring term) on solely increasing my GPA. I really still want to go to medical school, but I don't know if there is still hope. Also, I am terrified of taking science courses, particularly chemistry courses because of my poor experience with them in university, which is why I am debating if I should even take general chemistry two and organic chemistry in university. Since I am in the co-op stream, if I don't take general chemistry two during my next semester, organic chemistry will be delayed quite a bit. I'm also worried that if I take all my chemistry courses later on (in third and fourth year) this will significantly decrease my last two years GPA. Basically, increasing my GPA is going to be hard enough, I don't know if I should take chemistry to decrease it even more. I know that not taking chemistry may limit my options. Any and all advice is appreciated.
  9. Hey, I recommend that you continue working towards your degree. You still have time and with hard work you can increase your GPA. Also, you don't need to take physics, I haven't taken physics in university. As for the prerequisites I would recommend getting them done ASAP. You can always write the MCAT more than once. I think that you should for sure try to get into Canadian med schools. Best!
  10. Well depending on when the application comes out, I will have co-op during the summer followed by the regular school year. So if it comes out in July for example I can work on it while completing my co-op. When do you recommend having it completed by/submitting it?
  11. Hey guys, I'm just wondering how long it's approximately taken you guys to complete the OMSAS application and what you guys would recommend for completing the application while also balancing school? Thanks
  12. Hi, Thanks for replying! My schedule consists of HLTH 201, HLTH 204 and the tutorial, HLTH 202 and KIN 217. I think I'll stick with PSYCH 253. Have you taken it? Thanks
  13. Hey guys, So currently I've taken PSYCH 253 (Social Psychology) as my elective for the fall term, but I'm debating if I should take a bio course instead. I'm looking at BIO 110 (Introductory Zoology). I've also considered BIO 150 (Organismal and Evolutionary Ecology). I'm particularly interested in zoology, but I'm unsure if I should take it because it requires a lot of memorization and I've heard the lab component is hard. I have BIO 239 (Genetics) and BIO 273 (Introductory Physiology) in the winter term so I'm wondering if should just not take a bio elective this term? Let me know what you guys think! Thnx

  15. Hey guys, So some schools require some previous training for med school including basic life support training for health care providers, CPR-level C and standard first aid. I haven't complete any of these (I'm a second year student in a five year program). When do you recommend that I get these done? Thanks
