  1. The 2016 census data suggests a shift in the demographics of Manitoba (similar to the rest of Canada). And like @IMislove mentioned, the circumstances UManitoba is trying to acknowledge extend beyond race to encompass factors including SES and family structure that would impact an applicant's academics, extracurriculars, and the opportunities/privileges afforded to them throughout this process.
  2. I had similar/lower stats and was accepted to 2 Canadian schools this year (including one that looks at cGPA). I also wrote the MCAT after graduating undergrad because I was discouraged by my GPA. I don’t think at this point you need a second undergrad or MSc because of your GPA esp because a lot of schools have weighted GPAs. I suggest writing the MCAT, seeing how you score, applying once and then re-assessing depending on if you are invited for interviews
  3. I think in order to prevent the government from imposing harsh remuneration changes on all specialties, physicians should be fair to each other and tackle income inequality themselves. Unfortunately, this proactive approach doesn't seem close to happening... Especially with the inception of the OSA.
  4. The backpacks will be revealed in Calgary on Thursday based on CMA's Instagram
  5. https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2019/06/27/theyre-ontarios-top-billing-doctors-but-for-years-their-identities-have-been-kept-secret-until-now.html The Star has begun to release their investigation on the highest paid physicians in Ontario. Thoughts?
  6. That would definitely relieve a lot of burden on professors/mentors/bosses. But I'm curious how you would distinguish applicants if everyone ranks their students as 5/5
  7. At the interview, we were told students do not pay tuition during the enrichment year. Not sure how accurate that is though. https://mdprogram.mcmaster.ca/docs/default-source/general-resources-page/research/enrichment-program-policy-09-06-2017.pdf?sfvrsn=4
  8. UCalgary is such an amazing school, but sadly I declined my offer. Good luck to everyone waiting! Hope you hear good news soon
  9. Hamilton/McMaster are not unsafe. Friends who started at Mac and then went to Western said they preferred Hamilton and felt safer there. The 3- vs. 4-year debate is probably the most important factor to consider here, as well as your support systems and the opportunities provided by both schools.

  14. Result: Accepted!! Geography: OOP cGPA: 3.89 MCAT: 511 (130 CARS) Degree: MSc EC: Research, volunteering, clinically-oriented employment, creative projects, advocacy MMI: Prepped for a long time. Really liked the variety/amount of opportunities Calgary gave to showcase who you are but was very tired by the end. Thought I bombed at least 2 stations and felt pretty awful afterwards. Tried to be as honest as possible. Sooo surprised but grateful! Calgary gave a great first impression. Friendly students and staff, positive atmosphere, and I appreciated how transparent the Admissions Director was about the whole process. Hope I will see some of you next year and best of luck to everyone on this journey!
