Yeah I have the same issue. Negative Quantiferon but occasionally major skin reaction. Sensitive skin.
As far as I can tell, my options are pay out of pocket for quantiferon or get CXR every year.
Luckily I get a lot of redness but variable induration so I just get PPD every year and most experienced nurses read it negative. Only got into trouble one year with a less experienced nurse.

crysally reacted to rmorelan in Ontario to fund new residency spots with return of service requirements
I think maybe it stems from the issue that the government likely has taken away so many spots in the past few years, only to return them now specifically with the strings and lower than the original cost. Basically the created the problem they now attempt to solve, but did so in a way that specifically serves their interests and are trying to score political points in the process. There simply wouldn't be so many unmatched positions if they didn't create them. They are both arsonist and firefighter here.
On the other hand we have add long term staffing issues in many areas of the province and this always ultimately was a solution - no one is guaranteed a particular spot in a particular location and everything else they tried has basically failed. While they would never be so open as to say "look like it or not I am sticking you for a long time in a place you may not want to go, because it serves the public good" part of would at least ha be happier if they did. They created a lot of grief this way - and there are too many coincidences here to suggest there wasn't a plan. The government usually moves pretty slowly - and yet here with in a week of the match we have a brand new provincial plan in place, and a organized recruitment effort by the armed forces exactly lined up. Could be an over call I admit but it does look suspicious

The nature of CaRMS makes it hard to backup. It's obvious to any PD if someone's primary intention is a competitive specialty; most of these students have 50-100% of their electives dedicated to that 1 specialty. Even if you are a good student completely happy to do FM, you have to be able to sell that to PDs who are going to be suspicious from the start. On top of that you can only do so many interviews at so many places. Dual applying will involve flying back and forth and sometimes there is literally not enough time to attend all of them if scheduling doesn't work out.
I do see your point, but I doubt it's a significant number of people in that position.

You're making a case of who you feel sympathy for vs not, but the fact is that even if everyone did a backup strategy as you describe there would still be almost the same number of unmatched CMGs. Backing up doesn't solve the shortage of overall residency spots, it would just redistribute who goes unmatched. The numbers can be deceiving - almost all unfilled spots after 2 rounds are French-speaking family programs in Quebec.

This is the kind of quote that makes me wish there is a dislike button. You have #1 contributed nothing to the conversation and #2 put down some random stranger who is going through a difficult time. From your posting history you seem to be interested in surgery as well, so maybe one day you might be in the same shoes. Why bother writing it at all?
As a recently unmatched student I too found myself angry+bitter for quite some time after reading Robert Chu's letters to the minister. I feel like all the medical schools were trying to make his death a mental health issue when there is a looming employment disaster they should have addressed with the press coverage.
To OP, I am in the opinion that media would be better than human rights complaint, and rmorelan made really good points in the previous post iirc. As the child of an immigrant, I saw my highly educated parent getting rejected at costco job fairs. It really sucks, but like everything, this will pass too.

If you are going down that route if I may - why not wait the less than 2 weeks until the second around match results come out. I mean if you believe there is going to be 100+ unmatched people then that is your headline right there - you may be the point person and the specific example reflected but having the full weight of the match. That is the point of maximum impact.

I may not be in this boat, but I support the notion for a general license. As it stands, an MD is nearly worthless without a residency, and the current climate has made it excessively tight.
