  1. Hello everyone! I am a second-year undergraduate student at McMaster, and like many other universities, McMaster has also given students the opportunity to make their grade for any course P/F after viewing it for the Winter 2020 term. I had to take one P/F course as a program requirement last semester, and am seriously considering converting on course to P/F this upcoming semester to prevent a hit to my GPA. I know in terms of eligibility, this should be okay with most Ontario Med Schools Applications (UOttawa, McMaster, Toronto, Western, and Queens). But, I've heard rumours that taking P/F courses reflects negatively on an applicant. Is it just better to take the hit to my GPA then? Any thought/guidance would be greatly appreciate! Thank you for the help! Stay safe everyone!
  2. Gotcha, thank you very much for sharing your experience!
  3. Thank you so much for your reply and encouragement! The reasons you stated above are exactly why I am considering the internship. The only con is that it'll leave me with a "Leave of Absence" on my transcript, something that I'll have to justify when I apply as a candidate. In your experience, do you think that will be something that is viewed negatively by admissions committees, or not considered if there is a just reason?
  4. Thank you for your response! I definitely agree with what you're saying, and that is one of the reasons I'm seriously considering this opportunity. My only concern is with how admissions committees may view my Leave of Absence. I understand it won't affect my eligibility, but, in your experience, would gaps in transcripts/taking one year off for an internship be viewed negatively for a candidate? Thank you for your help!
  5. Hello everyone! I am currently an undergraduate student, and was considering taking a year-long leave of absence after my second year in order to a do an internship in health-policy. The internship would be at a research center near my university, so I would still be able to continue all of my commitments. I was wondering how this leave of absence would be considered on my applications - in other words, would it make a any less of a competitive applicant, or be viewed negatively? Thank you for the help everyone (this forum has really been a blessing)
  6. Awesome! Thank you for offering to answer my questions, I've sent you a message!
  7. Good Morning guys! Hope everyone had a great weekend! I am a graduating high school student from Ontario, and was lucky enough to receive an offer from the Health Sciences program at McMaster! I have accepted my offer, and plan on heading there in the fall. However, I still have a lot of questions about course selection, residences, and general university life at McMaster. So, I was wondering if there were any past/current students from McMaster Health Sciences or Life Sciences who would be willing to answer some of my questions. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!
