I haven't heard about this. Wouldn't it be weird if they start timing you after you start talking? Is one of the interviewers timing you or some other person?

Idk, doesn't seem true but I haven't interviewed at Western before so I don't know. I also think they would've mentioned that?

They might cut you off if you talk too long though (but I think that's the case for any panel interview)

takasugi got a reaction from Intrepid86 in Why are teachers in Ontario so demanding?
Teachers are really entitled as fuck.
You hit the nail on the head. Look at their benefits, pensions (very very juicy pensions), job security, job flexibility, vacation (2 months off in the summer, march break, winter break), don't even need to be highly educated (I had some dumbass teachers in school).
Yes, they have very important jobs in terms of educating and enriching the next generation of youth. But, they are rewarded generously (imo too much) for this and yet they still bitch every other year.
Reason imo is that they have very, very strong unions. Unions are a big problem in Canada and have really morphed into something beyond they were intended for. Some of these unions are just straight up psycho.

    Hi,

I'm scheduling my western interview where I can choose my preferred date/time.

I have a Mac interview on March 28.

I was thinking of scheduling my Western interview on the day after my Mac interview so the 29th. You guys think this is a bad idea? It would give me an extra couple of weeks to practice. The other option is the first week of March.

Come back when you’re a 4th year med student 300K in the hole and panicking about government funding cuts to doctors and how there’s no jobs, and how you’re about to blow 10K+ on a trans Canada interview tour for a residency position where you will work 90hrs per week for 5 years at the equivalent of minimum wage yet you’re now 30+ with a wife and kid to support in a city away from your family and friends who all have careers and are progressing in their life and meanwhile you’re wondering why the hell you did this to yourself as you eat an expired package of kraft dinner at 4am in a hospital basement while your pager is going nuts because “FYI” Mr. Jones’ K+ is 5.1. At that point, regardless of how much you love being a doctor and helping people, let’s see if you’d still prefer pennies.

    Yes

They count informal things like caregiving, assisting your neighbour, caring for your disabled sibling so I think yours would definitely be recognized

It's not much, I'll give you that. Honestly, just seems like: "Here are our token 2 poor people! See, we're doing our part!"
After using criteria that have been shown to weed out socioeconomically disadvantaged people (e.g. high GPA and MMI), setting an arbitrary income cut-off, which is only one narrow aspect of socioeconomic status, for 2 seats seems subpar.
Still, it's the only reason I applied to Ottawa this year.

How will 2 seats even help.... They are probably going to be taken by people who would've gotten in anyways...

To be fair, people are just trying to do the best they can in the current system. It's not premeds' fault that you need a 3.90+ GPA to be competitive, especially in Ontario. Even a 3.8, which is a good GPA, puts you at a disadvantage.

Address I would put down the school. I don't think it really matters as long as it's reasonable.

takasugi got a reaction from I_AM in Troubling question about my rejection...
The most likely explanation is the simplest and most logical one. You were rejected pre interview because other applicants were better and had what uoft was looking for more than you.

It might not make sense to you but you don't know how good other ppls applications were. You might be overrating your own essays and EC's . It's competitive.
