  1. Do u let preceptor know at beginning of rotation that u may ask for a ref letter? Or do u do it after they give u feedback?
  2. I emailed my staff, and she said that she is including them as a courtesy and I can decide if I want them to be on my paper or not? I don’t want to be mean or anything but they actually did not do anything
  3. What r signs that u r doing well? And what r signs you are not doing well?
  4. I asked a preceptor for Strong ref letter and she agreed! Now i also worked with her on a project where I am first author on paper and I noticed that she added another student that did not do any work on my manuscript so I asked her politely saying that I would like to give like to give credit where it’s due can u tell me how did that student contribute.. and I said I also said I apologize if I missed something About that students contribution.... Is it a problem that I said that? Would That affect my ref letter?
  5. How to deal with criticism on ur rotations? I try to do my best when writing discharge summaries and spend so much time on them but then when a staff reads they always make changes... I spend so much time on my work, but my staff always tells me about things that I can improve or change... I am not sure how to improve!!
  6. A lot of residents I meet in my rotations barely have anytime time to do anything outside of medicine. Some are even unhappy with their choice.. which residency medicine allows for work life balance

After talking to few of my friends in the class ahead of me, I realized that several individuals did not match to their top choice specialty ( in mid competitive specialties) despite having outstanding ECs and some research... what factors play a role into matching to ur first choice specialty? Is it ur knowledge level during electives? How to improve your chances of matching to ur top choice discipline?
  8. Interested in doing an internal medicine residency but would like to know how many hours does average resident/ week? What is work life balance in an internal medicine residency? Do u need a fellowship after rheumatology residency?

  10. How do they differ? Competitiveness of each? Jobs? Renumeration? Which one is better overall?
  11. You know some people have families and children, or elderly parents to take care of? Uprooting when u r in ur late 20s is NOT easy.. it’s not abt lack of gratitude or resilience, but these people have responsibilities beside school I have not gone thru Carms yet, will go thru it next year, and it’s a tough experience!

I did my first core rotations in surgery last month and when I sent my evaluations to preceptor: one said that I have excellent knowledge base and the other said that I have knowledge deficiencies in surgery and could get better with reading. Im u of c student and I just started clerckship and was wondering how does that affect medical records and what are ways to deal with knowledge deficiencies early in clerckship
  13. Do preceptors offer u one? I have not been offered one but they just said that I was keen with strong sense of Responsibility with good clinical knowledge
  14. Prior to medicine, I used to feel smart, and I used to get things done without much effort... however, now, I feel that I have to work hard to get good grades, do other people feel the same way? How to work in smart way to not put in a lot of effort into studying but still get good grades?
