optimisticOT2019 got a reaction from PTorOT? in Question for Current OT Students/Grads- Deciding between Ontario OT Schools
As the catchment area is large it could potentially be a far commute if u drive and sometimes not possible to commute via public transit (placements can take place in areas such as Barrie, Brantford, Oakville, Orangeville, Guelph ect.). For this reason some students do need to rent a place temporarily in the area of their placement also some placements might require you to have a car therefore being prepared financially if this does happen is important. @PTorOT? You find out the location for your first placement around the first/second week of October. You do have a few days once the placement list is posted to switch with classmates. For in catchment for the first placement the allocation is randomized  For following placements you can rank your top 10 however no guarantee you will get one of your top ten.

Current Mac Student OT. On placement we wear the attire our placement site requires and this can vary. However, for my hospital based placements scrubs were not worn and we dressed business casual (no jeans or leggings, wore pants with some degree of stretch that allowed for transferring patients, bending and crouching comfortably and a shirt that was semi-professional but still allowed for movement). Message if you have any questions.

While this is a very exciting day for many this can be a devastating day for others. For that reason, I am leaving the number for Crisis Services Canada - 1-833.456.4566. Wishing everyone the best when receiving today's news.  ♥

For me just letting time pass always helps. It can feel slow but as my memories become more distant so do my feelings associated with them. Failure is a part of life and everyone goes through it so you are not alone. No matter what, you will find your place, and develop meaning for yourself regardless of what you do specifically. When I was not offered a spot last year I decided what to do to keep moving towards my goals. I prioritized my professional, academic, and personal development in spaces that WERE made available to me. I didn't focus on what was NOT available to me. You will always have opportunities if you look for them and act on them. You can always keep developing. I have learned to enjoy the journey, and do my best to take care of myself while still aiming for ambitious goals. You should always be proud of the hard work you've done to  get where you are. Be confident that your drive will take you somewhere meaningful. Let yourself be sad for now, it is healthy and normal to let yourself feel. But also realize you have that sadness because you know what happiness feels like and you will feel happiness again too.

If you need someone to talk to feel free to message me. I was rejected last year so I know how it feels. If you feel this is your calling apply again next year. Use the rejection as motivation and don't let not getting in this year define you. You are an amazing human and don't think you are any less worthy because of this little road block. All people in my opinion with greatest success stories are those who were rejected, told they weren't good enough or failed at something but they viewed it as just another obstacle to over come. I'm sending you positive vibes and encouragement that you will succeed in whatever avenues life has you journey down. ♡♡♡

    Well said!
OP was very fatalistic and almost sounds like they don't want people to accept because they're competition in the job market.
Not a good look or mood to put out there for such a happy day (for some applicants anyway).

A huge congrats to everyone that got accepted to programs today! I thought I had a shot at getting into Western, but was unsuccessful in both my Queens and Western applications this year. Thankfully I got into UBC, which was my first choice and dream. I think that it was probably related to being an In-province applicant.
To all of you that didn't get in, don't give up! It took me 6 years to go from wanting to be a physio to actually getting into a program. It's an absolute journey, but if you learn to embrace the journey as one of life's many adventures then you will learn a lot along the way and also take away a massive life lesson. If you're solely focused on the destination, you will never be happy with where you're at. Keep working hard, talk to everyone you know about your passions and struggles - they will give you invaluable advice and research everything there is to know about these application processes and how to succeed. Again congratulations to everyone that was successful today and to those who weren't it's time to go back to the drawing board and figure out how to make your application more competitive next cycle!

Accepted to Western OT, waitlisted for U of T, rejected from MAc OT. A note to all hopefuls that haven’t heard back for 2019...don’t get discouraged! I’m a second time applicant with a low sub gpa (3.66, and low cumulative gpa 3.51) and I used the year off to get work and volunteer experience. It’s so easy to get down on yourself especially I you have your heart set on OT, but apply again! I also applied to nursing and other programs to keep my options open: but am very glad I tried OT again. I put some serious effort into the application and got it peer reviewed, and having prior experience with CASPAR I think helped (I had done it before for an application last year). Good luck to everyone out there and keep your spirits up!
