  1. Does anyone know if medical schools allow for an applicant to apply for a spot in Canada if they're already completing a medical education in another medical school outside the country? This wouldn't be a transfer (ex apply to Canadian MD school in 1st year of Irish MD school, begin Canadian MD school in 2nd year), but would be beginning one's medical education from scratch. Apart from being a huge financial loss with some of the tuitions of international medical schools, has anyone heard of this being done/is this allowed?
  2. Hey guys, fellow Canadian pre-med here. Best of luck to everyone waiting to hear back on an acceptance! I'm also waiting to hear back from a school in the next few weeks; I have no idea how I'm going to react regardless of an acceptance or rejection. I'm planning out my summer, and it looks like I'll have more flexibility in my schedule compared to previous summers. I was thinking of finding an opportunity to get involved with an activity that would be relevant for someone who’s pursuing a career in medicine, and taking place in outdoor setting in Western Canada like in British Columbia, Alberta etc. I really enjoy the outdoors and hiking, and I’ve spent time in the Rockies in the past. This might seem like a different kind of question compared to others posted on this forum, but would anyone have an idea of opportunities (be it volunteering or employment) they got involved with that took place in the outdoors and was relevant to their pursuit of medical school? I figured I would post this in the U of A forum considering the likelihood of its med school applicants having knowledge this haha. Are there any internship/shadowing etc programs similar to what I described some you may have undertaken? Any feedback would be appreciated Good luck in the next few days!

  5. Anyone have any suggestions for some activities conducive to medicine while travelling to another province? Are there any interesting volunteering/shadowing programs perhaps that students sometimes complete in the summer in Canada? My summer plans are fairly flexible at the moment, and I was thinking of researching some interesting opportunities for me to leave my city this summer to engage in some meaningful activities that can also be related to medicine.
  6. Hey guys, I'm an older student with a Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology, who decided not to go down the Masters/PhD route while completing my degree and a little bit after as well. However, it's been a few years at this point and I've found myself dissatisfied with writing off research without actually having tried it myself. My question is: would it be ok if I approached a PI and saying that I'm very interested in their research/can I volunteer BUT I want to get involved to see if this path is right for me, and if there's some option for me to contribute to the lab without long-term commitment? I'm eager to get experience through volunteering or other opportunities in a lab, but I'm not comfortable with committing several months/years to doing it in the event where I see that it isn't for me. Anyone else began involvement in a lab with a conversation like this with their PI?
  7. Anyone have some Podcasts they would recommend to brush up on current events/medical issues etc? I'm listening to The Economist on Spotify
  8. Interested as well! Has a group been organized yet?
  9. Hey guys, I had a question regarding a Canadian graduate of a 5-year UK med school returning to Canada for a residency. I've looked high and low on the internet for resources/anecdotal information on Canadian grads returning home for residencies from the UK, but I haven't found much. Can anyone comment on the actual process of a Canadian grad from a UK medical school returning to Canada? Obviously one would have to write the MCCQE Part 1/2 etc, but are there differences to returning back home from the UK than, say, completing medical school in Ireland? Is an MBChB degree different in worth than an MD in regards to securing a Canadian residency? If anyone could provide info/comment on the process of a Canadian securing a residency in Canada upon completing a 5-year UK med school, it would be appreciated!
