  1. Thanks for your response ArchEnemy. My father grew up in Texas so that would be first choice along with Florida as we’ve spent a lot of time there. California would be great too as we’re currently on west coast of Canada..... But to be honest, we’re willing to look at mostly all states- with only a preference for the warmer ones after living in freezing Scotland and Ireland! Seems to me that our stumbling block is the fact that our medical degrees and postgraduate training are from outside the US or Canada........
  2. Dear all, Myself and my husband are both doctors trained in the UK but working in Canada. I’m looking for advice primarily regarding my husband as he is further down the tracks and has completed all exams, whereas I’m still trying to obtain LMCC. Husband is an OBGYN specialist with MRCOG from UK and has been a doctor for 26 years. He has been working in Canada for the past 5 years and has a full licence here (LMCC) as well as FRCS. My father grew up in the US and I’ve always wanted to live there. My question is, can my husband work there without having to do USMLE and residency there? My understanding is that some states accept LMCC as equivalent to USMLE but as essentially an IMG ( even though he has all the Canadian exams) he would need to do a 4 year residency in OBGYN? Is this correct? Basically the US accepts a Canadian MD and residency but not training from any other country. However I was wondering whether working for 5 years in Canada with all the Canadian qualifications too would be looked at differently? Its very hard to get advice even going onto specific states medical licensing boards looking into their requirements. I was wondering whether anyone knew of somewhere or someone we could contact to get specific advice? Any advice or pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  3. Congratulations on passing! For me as an IMG I think the ethics questions were difficult but I’m hearing all the advice re Toronto notes. Thank you.
  4. Thank you so much for sharing. I’ll be sure to sign up for that.
  5. Congratulations Heisencat!! I felt the same way you did coming out of that exam. I thought it was bizarre too. Thank you for the advice re study tools. I’m not familiar with UWorld but looked it up. Which bank of questions did you study from? The USMLE? Which step? All so unfamiliar with me, being from the UK. Thank you!
  6. Thank you. I really appreciate your advice and recommendations on what to study. Just found the actual day of the exam very hard. Very pushed for time on the first paper and really guessed most of them. Felt very deflated as I was going along thinking it wasn’t a reflection of my knowledge, felt I wasn’t doing very well and also thought I would never put myself through the exam again if I failed! I just don’t know if I can do it again. I’m older now and have 3 kids so it’s harder to carve out time and study. Going to go and lick my wounds now! You should be out celebrating!
  7. Thanks Monocle. Did my finals in the UK in 2002 then did my MRCGP after that so it’s been a long time since I’ve done exams. Thought I studied really hard for it. Used Canada Qbank. Didn’t study ethics and on reflection I should have. I have an old Toronto notes- from 2011 that someone gave me- is that too old? Should I buy a new one? Also, should I forget about LMCCs and consider USMLE? Congratulations on passing Monocle!
  8. Thanks for all that great advice monocle. I will look to use all those tools and start again when the dust settles a bit. You are right- I’ll need to invest in a new Toronto notes and hone in on all those guidelines. Guess I’ll ditch Canada Q bank and use USMLE world like you say and the MCC questions. The weekend before I sat the exam -16th April - I debated about whether to spend the $500 on the MCC questions- I wish I had now of course! Thanks for your advice. All the best!
  9. Also, can I ask for advice from successful candidates which study tools they used? Thanks in advance.

  11. Thanks. Starting work tomorrow on a provisional licence and feel completely incompetent now. ☹️
  12. I’m absolutely gutted. I failed the Part 1 today. I’m an IMG and found the exam had so many ethics questions and unusual questions. My score was 215. Anyone know the pass mark? any advice would be appreciated.
