  1. Wow thank you so much for that! Would it be possible to do a similar chart but with all the MCAT sections?

    Senior Year Thesis?

I did my research project mostly for the skills I would earn rather than to put on my application. Anyways any kind of research you do as part of a course can not be used to put on your OMSAS application. However if you continue working with the lab for the summer/want to do a master/get a future publication out of it then yes you could put it on your application...but that wouldn't be until next year. If you genuinely want to do research and learn a decent amount of skills out of it, do it. (and start emailing supervisors literally today) If you don't care about the skills and research and just want good grades then don't do it. The project is a huge commitment . Either way if you are hesitant email supervisors regardless. If one accepts you always have the option to change your mind.

    wGPA Calculation?

"A full-time academic year where the equivalent of four (4) courses per semester is taken is accepted and counted in the WGPA calculation only if the missing course/credit is completed either as an additional course within another academic year or as a summer course. Individual courses taken during a summer session are accepted for the credit value in this instance however the mark obtained is not counted in the calculation of the WGPA." Short answer: Yes it counts

That's quite reassuring actually. I can stop obsessively refreshing my emails for the day...
  5. Completely agree! You may have skipped on a comment I put a little higher as a clarification to what you mentioned so I will quote myself on that one: "I do want to point out that it's important to remember that being underprivileged does not only mean that you are poor and that your parents have no contacts. It can be a variety or combination of many different factors. Heck you can be filthy rich and still be underprivileged with oppressive and neglecting parents. Just something to keep in mind." Thank you for putting things into perspective!

    Waitlist Support Thread - 2019

I was there on Tuesday and Chantal said they were not! (granted it was 2 days ago) but it seemed like they were far from full from her expression. Also in past threads the classes were not full until July so definitely there are still spots left!

    Waitlist Support Thread - 2019

Hmm it's hard to tell! I read through a lot of past year's posts in the last few weeks and all I know is people debunked it with people from later timestamps being accepted before the ones from earlier timestamp (just like in this case). I think it may just mean that you are in a different bin since someone with a lower wGPA got off the waitlist :/ I mean unless the mail-merge is organized my waitlist rank but then it would make no sense... I mean honestly being waitlisted is going to turn us all to delirium T_T Little edit scrolling to earlier posts in this thread (like a maniac I must add): someone got accepted in the english stream with 7:28:24 AM as a email sent time (unless it was a typo).

They didn't skip anything, timestamp is just not a waitlist rank indicator. Them sending a mail-merge is a much more plausible theory.
  9. I'm mostly surprised at the 60 000$ threshold they chose. Because 60 000 for a family of 1-2 parents and one child is significantly different than a family of 1-2 parents and 5 children for instance. Clearly they did not think this through properly.
  10. I found what you are asking for on this link! https://med.uottawa.ca/undergraduate/admissions/information-applicants/social-accountability-initiative

It's weird I went to see her last week and she said that French calls would be made little by little and not at a specific date...but I haven't heard of anyone in the French stream getting a call...
  12. Hi all! I just completed my UG and got waitlisted. I like to prepare for the worst and am considering doing a Master. My options for a master is a 1 year course based in education of health professionals and the second is in cellular biology (typical 2 year research master). I am also considering just finding a job for the year. Which option do you think would be best? Any other recommendations? What universities don't consider your application if you apply in the middle of a master? I hear you need to complete your master by June how would that work for course base? Thanks for your help!
  13. Thank you all for your wonderful responses! It's great to have such a supportive community with people who can relate. It is really reassuring to see people who can relate and this definitely motivates me to continue to push through! To all the ones who are or were in a similar situation you have all my respect. To all those who were never in that situation you also have my respect! As mentioned in a comment above all the advantages in the world can not out-weight a combination of skills and hard work. Some have it harder, some have it a lot harder, but at the end of the day we are all hardworking individuals. I do want to point out that it's important to remember that being underprivileged does not only mean that you are poor and that your parents have no contacts. It can be a variety or combination of many different factors. Heck you can be filthy rich and still be underprivileged with oppressive and neglecting parents. Just something to keep in mind.
  14. I've been having a very hard time the last few years because all the people I know who want to go to med school are the typical student with middle or upper middle class parents that get tons of opportunities handed over to them because of "contacts" and who won't ever have to worry about their apartment building being set on fire by a bunch of sociopathic drug dealers living a floor bellow (true story). How in the world I am supposed to compete with that?
