I’m in second year now, and I went with Scotia. Depending on your campus Scotia has reps that are actually on campus. That was a big bonus, I thought, because I wanted someone I could talk to in person if something went wrong! 

It's not for you, its for their protection if something happens to you and they cannot be repaid. Don't take it.

Like everyone else will say, the program doesn’t matter. Make sure it allows you to get all the prerequisites, and make sure the schools you want accept that degree. For example some American schools want to see science degrees. Also keep in mind that you need to prepare yourself for dental school. While just getting in requires only prerequisites, a life or health sciences program prepares you for the courses you’ll see in dental school. That way it’s not as shocking when you actually get there! The route I took was a health Sci degree at a smaller university, that way there was more time for individual/interactive instruction from professors, and I was able to get higher grades. 

Yes you’re right about the 6/10. I don’t believe lab credits count, for me labs were included in the main course so I think they correspond with the lecture part if that makes sense? 

In previous years they went out in March and there’s never really a set date. Last year they went out on a Monday so I’d say sometime during the week of the 25

You don't really need to hire anyone to improve on your interview skills in my opinion. You can find lots of practice interview questions with a quick google search. Practice with friends/family, record yourself with a camera, practice in front of your mirror...etc. If you really want professional feedback some universities or job search centres will offer free interview workshops that you can go to for feedback 

I can attest personally that I had a 3.95 and didn’t get and interview at UofT but I’m in at western so you can never be too sure Hahahah... and yeah exactly, they finished 3rd year, took a couple gap years and are now going back. 
I do completely understand the issue with social science-y courses - maybe if you go back, look to see if your university has a writing centre or even book appointments with your profs to make sure your papers are on the right track. (That helped me with a course I had revolving around social issues, which had us write a paper every 2 weeks yikes).

While it’s totally possible to get in after 3 years, I know of people with good grades, decent dat and above average extracurriculars who have not been admitted to uoft on multiple tries. Don’t limit yourself, because you really don’t know what will happen, especially if you really are passionate about dentistry. Also, it would benefit you to have a degree as a dental hygienist. If you want to work your way up in the college or branch out from standard practise and work in knowledge translation, the degree is something you’d need. I felt the same way going into 4th year but it ended up being completely different than I had planned, and even a bit easier than the other years. Don’t doubt your abilities! Also - uoft won’t even count your 4th year, so you could even apply this year and get in, with 4th year meaning nothing.

I hear that they did in previous years, but maybe because they’re calling from a personal phone she can’t leave a number to call back at? Hopefully you get called tomorrow!

ahhhh congrats!!! Good to see the WL moving. I am MWL, I don't have my hopes too high lol But I am glad to see a fellow "WLister" getting the call. Good luck and all the best in Dental School.

Hope you are all keeping well! I know this is an extremely stressful time for you all, I just wanted to reach out and say that the 2023s and other students are very excited to meet all the incoming 2024s and get to know you. Try to do your best to do anything to take your mind off the impending decision, you've all worked really hard for this and deserve to relax for a little bit!

Professional schools don’t look at where you got the degree. It’s best to go where you think you’ll get the best grades, have the best opportunities (intra and extra-curriculars), and have the best faculty support. Don’t pick a school for the prestige of the name! 
 
My biggest recommendation is to attend the university fair in your application year
