  1. What are competitive specialities? Would you be able to rank all of them in terms of competitiveness? In addition, how do we find out what cores are needed before electives in specific specialties? Like someone mentioned that cardiac surgery will want internal medicine and general surgery?
  2. Hello! Thank you so much for doing this How do students at McMaster go about deciding on a specialty? I have heard that people need to figure this out earlier on because of the 3-year program... What are some good resources to learn more about the different specialties early on?
  3. Result: Accepted (Hamilton) Timestamp: 8:08 AM cGPA: 4.00 CARS: 129 CASPer: Ottawa interview so it was probably decent although I definitely did not prepare. Year: 3rd year UG Geography: IP Button: No Will be accepting! Please stop trying to rain on other people's parade... Regardless of what you think about Mac, there are people who have their reasons for wanting to attend there or only received an offer from Mac. I feel like this is not the time to be like "rip you guys because everyone will look down on you in the future and you'll end up not matching". Maybe I am a little biased, but I personally agree more with the statement that Mac included in their FAQ email which basically states that medical school is not the end of the journey, it's just the beginning. It matters way more what we do from this point on rather than what we did before. I'm sure that no matter how the candidates were selected this year, they will continue to learn and grow. No one is going to be applying to residency just as they are right now. I also would like to believe that residency directors will not completely ignore your application and just be like "oh they're from the lottery year, instant reject". If you were able to do just as well during medical school as all the previous years, why would it matter how you got in? Since I have already decided that Mac was going to be my first choice, I'm just really excited right now and I know that I'll work hard in the next 3 years. So... I guess I'm not that bothered! Luck is a kind of skill as well? XD Plus, I have definitely heard other medical schools say that after a certain point, it doesn't really matter if you pick the top half or the bottom half of the candidates because they'll have to learn most of what's necessary to be a good doctor during medical school anyway (don't have a source but I'm sure I have heard it somewhere before).
  4. are we sure the OMSAS offers are legit this year? I am a little veryyy shook and already told people oops.
  5. Got an offer to McMaster! I did not have the button previously but I do have it now! (only shows on OMSAS, does not show on Mosaic right now but I'm hoping it's real and will just update eventually)
  6. Do we think that the buttons are legit? And that the earlier posts about how people saw a button in past years despite being waitlisted/rejected are false?
  7. At this point, I'm just hoping that I wasn't put into the rejection pile :'(. I actually really would like to go to McMaster since I am from near Hamilton T_T I am feeling a little sad and anxious... I'm honestly not sure how good my luck is ahhhh
  8. If they got so many other interviews, I'm sure their ABS and LORs are good or definitely aren't bad.
  9. I think it's okay if we don't know what any of this means right now (in terms of button or the mac selection formula). We will find out in a few days and then we can see if any of our speculations are actually correct!
  10. I honestly think it's too early to feel sad because you don't have the button! 1) we don't really know what the button means 2) even if button means offer, it still might appear later on (i.e. on the 12th when we're supposed to find out the results) 3) even if you didn't receive an offer, there are still many people who get in from the waitlist! Especially if you're one of those applicants who have good stats but don't see a button right now There's still hope even if you don't have the button
  11. I kind of think it might also show up eventually... Seems weird for only McMaster to have uploaded their offers? I would think most schools are done by now?
  12. right now on the poll, there's 2 people who did not interview at mac and has a button as well as someone who apparently didn't interview anywhere with a button???
  13. No button, interviewed at Mac, Ottawa, and Queen's. Honestly by looking at everyone's stats so far, I have no clue what formula Mac is using if button = offer. o.O My stats: 4.0 GPA, 129 CARS, and probably not a terrible CASPer because I interviewed at Ottawa.
