  3. Hello, on the McGill site it states that you can be admitted on the basis of your second degree GPA if you have completed 45 credits by the Nov 1 deadline. Say I start a 2 year after degree this September. How would I be able to meet the 45 credits by Nov of next year? (nov 2021?) Thanks Policy: https://www.mcgill.ca/medadmissions/applying/requirements/requirements-edu/degree-requirements
  5. Hey guys, I was just wondering for those who got interviews at McGill: how competitive does ones CV have to be? I just finished my first year of Cegep and will be applying next cycle to Mcgill + Francophone schools. Academically R score in 38-39 range at the moment, but a lot will depend on next semester (over 50% of it because second semester won’t count due to COVID-19). My biggest worry is that my CV won’t be competitive. Unfortunately, I was planning on working and volunteering this summer but everything has been cancelled since COVID-19. Will the fact that most of my commitments ended in 2019 affect my application? My most recent experience would be an award in 2019 and a job during summer 2019, all I would have since then are things in the hobbies section/education sections. Additionally, for the verifiers, does anyone know how that process works? Also how many items should one have to be competitive? thanks a lot!

  8. Hi! Anyone else on the Med-P waitlist 2020? I'm between 15-20 on the waitlist... Don't want to get too discouraged! Does anyone know how much it moved last year?
  9. Hi ! I'm torn between two programs at McGill (nutrition and OT) for Fall 2020 and I was wondering if anyone that is currently in the OT program at McGill or knows any details about it could reply and give me details about it. I do have some volunteering experience in hospitals but I haven't had the chance to shadow an OT. I have been looking through forums in the hopes to find more information about the program but couldn't find any valuable details. Thank you in advance to anyone that takes the time to respond !
  10. Hi! Has anyone heard any news about their McGill Major Entrance Scholarship application? Do you know when they’ll start giving out decisions (**Edit: decisions for the Major Entrance Scholarship)? When I go on Minerva, it says that my application is being reviewed by a selection committee
  11. Hey Guys I hope that I don’t create a panic with this post. As we get closer to the magical Monday, please use this thread to report your outcomes. I removed EC and cGPA as at this point it is only prereq GPA that plays a role: TIME STAMP: Result: pre-reqGPA: MCAT: Feeling About MMI (please be mindful of NDA): Year: IP/OOP/International: comments: Good Luck to all my comrades. Every step of this journey has been bitter sweet. There has been tears of joy and disappointment but very soon we shall know of our destiny. No matter the outcomes, let us we are much grander than this decision. “Remember your dreams and fight for them. You must know what you want from life. There is just one thing that makes your dream become impossible: the fear of failure.” May the odds be ever in your favor! Good Luck!!!!
  12. Hello, I was wondering if anyone would be interested to meet up to practice MMI, we could meet up and practice different scenarios and help each other :) Let me know!
  13. Hello, Does anyone know anything about IMG postgraduate stream "contingent particulier"? Any statistics, experience, admission release dates etc... On https://mcgill.ca/pgme/admissions/prospective-residents/ministry-funded/contingent-particulier there are just general information. Tx Velimir
  14. Hi guys! Much gratitude in advance for the replies/advice/insight! I'm an M3 in Montreal, Med-P background, and only have eyes from Family Medicine. I just wonder too often whether, at this point, I'm strong enough of an applicant? I have no research experience, but do have years worth of community involvement (mostly from before Med-P, about 1 years worth during) and my own health literacy initiative. Apart from this, so far, my clerkship evaluations are good. I plan on pursuing electives that could help me refine skills that would make me a better Fam Doc. I am "well-rounded" with respect to my extracurriculars. However, that is about it. What can I do to make myself a stronger candidate? To match here in Montreal would be a dream, but I certainly will be applying broadly. To summarize, here are some questions I would hugely appreciate having answers too. 1) What makes a strong family medicine applicant? 2) Is research worth pursuing during M3/M4 given I have no previous experience? 3) Are some strong reference letters more valuable than others (i.e surgery vs psych vs fam med) 4) What do you recommend as far as electives for a Fam Med applicant? Thank you so much! Please excuse my anxious med-p energy (it's chronic).
  15. I am a McGill medical student interested in Family Medicine. Ideally I would like to stay in Montreal. I have some questions about the FM program at McGill (Montreal area) and I would appreciate it if a current resident or recent graduate can reach out to me via DM. Thanks
  16. Hello all, Im an IMG interested in General Surgery and was wondering what the different pros and cons of each program are, and what respective residents think about their programs
Merciiii
  18. Just wondering what the general consensus is on the available general surgery programs in the country, which are considered “the best” and what are the pros and cons of each?
  19. Hello everyone. I am a McGill medical student interested in learning French. I have absolutely zero knowledge of the French language. I am looking for advice from some of the more senior members of the forum who were in a similar situation. My aim is to reach a level where I can have a functional conversation with a patient in French (i.e be able to express myself as well as understand what the patient is telling me). I am not interested in learning how to read or write at the moment. What is the best and most efficient way to reach that level? I heard about the Medical French Workshops organized by McGill. I have also heard about online programs such as Duolingo and Rosetta Stone. What is the best and most efficient way to go about this? Also, how long would it take me to be able to have a functional conversation with a patient in French? Any input on this matter would be greatly appreciated, especially from people who were in a similar situation and who have first-hand experience in learning French from scratch. Thanks.
  20. Hey, So I created this thread for med-ps to discuss since I found that there weren't a lot of discussions for our applicants' pool. What do you guys think of the Med-P waitlist @mtl and @outaouais this year? At which rank do u think the waitlist might stop? Is there anyone willing to leave the waitlist? Are you guys waiting for responses from other universities while being accepted at McGill or while being on McGill's waitlist? Admitted med-ps, former med-ps and candidates on the waitlist are more than welcome to share their thoughts. Feel free to do so!
  21. this is regarding the OT QY: Some questions for a future applicant: Is there an interview process for OT QY? I saw some old comments saying there was an MMI style interview For the video portion of the application: what did you guys include in your video? Trying to gauge what is important Thanks!
  22. Hello premed101 users! I am a 21 year old soon-to-be 3rd year (DEC) nursing student currently studying in Montreal. For the last year or so, I have been thinking about restructuring my academic path in a way that would ultimately allow me to apply to medical school. After many hours of reflection, I decided it would be best to finish my nursing DEC so that i could then apply in Health Sciences (Fall 2020). This means that i would be completing my med school prerequisites over another two years, all the while working part time as a nurse. I currently have a 33.0 global R-score. I've won two scholarships and have been on the Dean's list since my admission. I believe i have a better shot at staying in CEGEP for two more years, acing my science courses, hopefully increase my R-score from 33.0 to at least 35.0, and then apply to med school. I feel like the academic competition in CEGEP is somewhat more manageable than the fierce competition of university, which would make it easier for me to stand out. In addition, I've seen that the med faculties offer more spaces for college students than university students. All that being said, I just wish to have some objective input on the matter. Many of us here come from many different backgrounds which is why i want to have your advice. Is my plan feasible? Should i be better off applying to university after my nursing DEC? Why or why not? Thank you so much in advance!
  23. Bonjour !
