  1. Hi everyone! I was hoping you guys could help me out. I was successful in securing a seat at a dental school in Australia and am now in the process of trying to obtain a student line of credit to pay for my studies, but I don’t have a co-signer (my credit is excellent though). Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is it possible to secure a LOC without a co-signer? Many of the major banks seem to offer great options, but they seem to be reserved for students studying dentistry in Canada and/or require a co-signer. That being said, seeing that there is a reciprocal agreement in place between Canada and Australia I’d hope there would be some leeway. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks everyone and good luck!
  2. Hi everyone, seeing as admissions has informed me that letters will be sent out “tomorrow at the latest,” I figured it’s that time of year again: status: cGPA: DAT: Self-perceived interview thoughts: regardless of the outcome guys, we came a long way and that’s something admirable!
  3. Hey everyone, I am interested in hearing everyone's opinion on the pros/cons of each dental school. I'll get it going based on what I've heard: Toronto: + Big city living + Networking/Social - Competitive atmosphere - Cost of living - Archaic program/facility - Notoriously difficult profs Western: + New/renovated facility + Cost of living + Less competitive atmosphere - Less nightlife - Smaller city McGill: + Low tuition + Small class sizes + Beautiful city + Average program - Out of Ontario - French city - Others????
  4. Hello Dental Studies Students, We still need a tutor 3 evenings per week for a first year dental hygiene student in Toronto, North York area, to meet in person for 2-hour sessions. Please Reply if you are interested. Thanks!

  6. Hello, I am hoping to apply to dentistry next year, and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for good books/materials that helped them prepare for MMI style interviews. Thanks!!
  7. Hello! I'm VERY interested in applying for the DMD program at UBC and have a few questions about admissions. A bit of background on me... I completed an undergrad degree in Business with a 3.2 GPA. I have yet to take the pre-reqs for the DMD program at UBC, as well as write the DAT and CASPER test before applying for the program. After my experiences I realized that dental is what I want to do and I'm aiming to complete the pre-reqs with good grades and complete the DAT and CASPER with high marks. I'm afraid that with my 3.2 undergrad GPA I have no chances of getting into the program at UBC but I'm hoping that the pre-reqs and DAT turn that around. I'm wondering if UBC assess the pre-reqs for the program over the undergrad degree? And how much weight GPA truly has on your application? I have some extra curriculars related to my undergrad but none for dental. Would it be a good idea to have some dental extra cirrculars for when I apply? Please help! What are my chances of getting accepted? Is there any possibility at all? Thanks so much!

  9. Hello, I am a Canadian student planning to apply to the US. I have around a 3.5 GPA, taking my DAT next November so hoping to get at least 20+, and I have extensive amount of extracurriculars and shadowing experience. Honestly, my extras are amazing. I started 2 university clubs catering towards the healthcare field, I am on the pre-dental committee, I started an organization that connects young entrepreneurs to attract mentorship opportunities in my community, I have been working as a pharmacy technician for 3 years, and I have around 500+ shadowing hours at 2 dentists and an orthodontist. Overall, My extracurriculars are really strong. (Pm if you want the full list), my GPA would be around a 3.5 at the time of admission, and hoping my DAT score would be around a 20+. That being said, what are my chances of getting into an American dental school? Considering I would be an international student and my GPA isn't as high as most international students, can my extracurriculars, personal statement, and letter of recommendations potentially make up for that? Also, The reason for my low GPA is only due to my first year of university studies. All my other years have been an A average or above. (3.85+) . Would they also take that into account? I would appreciate all your thoughts and opinions!
  10. So... deep breath that it is finally over. The process was pretty relaxed and overall well done in my opinion. Now we have the next two weeks to coast and wait for our decision. How is everyone feeling?
  11. Hi I have applied to several private schools Northeastern US schools, U of T and western, and Irish schools. I'm wondering if anyone can comment on my chances. I have not yet received any interviews from US schools and don't know if I have missed the boat. Degree: BScH in Life Sciences with Minor in Computing Academics: cGPA: 3.51/4.0 science GPA: 3.48/4.0 Best two years for western: 90.75% Canadian DAT: AA: 20 BIO: 19 CHEM: 20 PAT: 22 RC: 20 TS: 19 ECs: -100 hours shadowing -1 summer working in dental office -1 summer in neuroscience research -1 summer in human mobility research with computing element -President of club that raises money for children with CHD (started club's first conference) -2 (going on 3) semesters as TA in computing
  12. Hey guys, I'm a first year student. I recently had the idea of applying for one of the unis in Australia for dent (Queensland most likely). They take in my highschool marks for admission and not my Uni GPA since i would be applying before the end of my first year. This seems like a good idea to save time and avoid Canada's low admission chances. Plus my highschool mark was pretty good (mid 90) so I think I have a decent chance. The only catch is that it's a 400k tuition, with prob 100k more for living expenses (5 year course btw). I was thinking that since I would be graduating at around 24, I can grind for a couple of years to pay off a huge chunk before marriage and other concerns get on my mind. I should note that my mom is a dentist so maybe finding a job would be easier for me. Any advice? honestly anything would help. Of course the amount of debt is crazy but I'm thinking that it might be worth it (again, I might be stupid in thinking that, so lmk). Thanks in advance folks
  13. Hi, Anyone applied to Dent-P at McGill for Fall 2018? What do you think will be the new R-score required for an interview? What are they looking for in CVPN's? Did you guys apply to the French dental schools too?
  14. I'm a bachelor of science student in my third year of my degree in Alberta, Canada majoring in biology. These are my stats:GPA: 3.704CDAT: 19 AA19 BIO19 CHEM19 TS20 RC16 PATI've got more than 100 hours of shadowing. I've done a lot of volunteering and for long periods of time, I've also started my own club in my university and am an executive for my universities Golden Key Chapter club and have been for two years now. By the time I finish my GPA should be around a 3.75-3.8 I hope. Obviously my scores are average and my PAT is quite low. What are my chances realistically of getting into dental school in the USA or Australia? Should I even bother applying or just retake the DAT? Thank you.
  15. Creating this thread for anyone that has been waitlisted at UBC to update us on their status, or for anyone that is planning on dropping their spot to inform us
  16. (1) What is the process of applying for the DOTP like and how competitive is it to get in (academically and physically)? (2) Is it possible to apply for the DOTP during your second or third year of dental school? (3) I feel like I would like working for the Canadian Forces as I always have had a knack for adventure, but if I had to end my contract earlier (e.g. if I wanted to open a private practice even before my obligatory service ends), how huge will the penalty be? (4) I know it helps to be bilingual but do the Forces still consider you if you only speak English? Also, feel free to share your experiences about going through the DOTP and also your life as a dental officer. What is your everyday life like and how do you like it? Thank you!!
  17. Hi, Anyone applied to Dent-P at McGill for Fall 2018? What do you think will be the new R-score required for an interview? What are they looking for in CVPN's? Did you guys apply to the French dental schools too?
  18. Hi everyone! I am starting this thread because we should be hearing from McGill about interviews pretty soon. From previous threads, applicants have heard back around Jan 21st, and admissions said they should send them out before Jan. 26 so basically, we should hear from this by the end of the week. Please post below if you were accepted or rejected, IP or OOP, GPA and hours of volunteer/extra-curricular work Good luck to everyone!
  19. The class of 2021 has created this year's interview video which can be viewed here: https://vimeo.com/255087550 Good luck to all candidates who will be interviewing this weekend - we look forward to seeing you there!

  21. I recently took the Canadian DAT in November and got these scores.Reading comp: 20BIOL: 18Chem: 17Sci Total: 18Academic Average: 18PAT: 14MDT: 6This was my first time taking the DAT, and I went into it with zero preparation, based off these scores alone do you think there is any chance I could make it into a Canadian Dental school or should I retake the DAT in February and actually prepare properly this time.My GPA right now is at 3.7, but by the time i finish it'll probably be around 3.8-3.9ish
  22. Hi I'm currently a 3rd year sciences student in Canada. My plan is to go into dentistry in Canada however the schools here are very competitive so I'm definitely going to be applying to a lot of USA schools as well. I've been looking at the fees for a lot of dental schools and I've seen ranges from $250k USD all the way up to $500-600k USD, for other Canadian students who have attended dental schools in the USA how difficult is it to get a loan? Can you even get a loan that's going to pay for $500k-600k USD? If not how did you fund your dental school fees? Thank you.
  23. I'm finishing up my Master's (thesis) and I wasn't originally going to apply to UofT since my GPA with the lowest year dropped is 3.78 but I'm in that phase of "there's no harm putting in an application anyway", considering the deadline is nearing. Can someone give me an honest reply at my chance? I'm not sure if I'm wasting money by filling the app out. Thanks!
