  1. Schools that have released their interviews. If you've heard, please list. I know of: Calgary Saskatchewan McMaster NOSM McGill Queens University of Alberta
  2. Hi, I'm interested in applying for an Emerg Med elective in either the University of Saskatchewan or the University of Manitoba. Could someone who has knowledge of these programs comment on what experience I should expect as a med student. - Are the preceptors good at teaching? - Do you get lots of hands on experience? - Good opportunity to get reference letters? Thanks!
  3. Hello, I was always interested in emergency medicine and I thought it might be great experience to participate in a program abroad to gain a new perspective on the job. I was searching the possibilities there are, and I found this thing called Czech Hospital Placements Program. The page about their emergency department says that you can observe the doctors even during night shifts and it all seems really exciting. But I am not sure, if I want to participate, because I don't know anyone who has already experienced it. Don't you guys have any experience with this program? Any help is appreciated Thank you in advance!
  4. Hi, Anyone know how serious burnout is for ER docs? I know it was a problem in the past, but I've heard anecdotally that it's gotten much better in recent years. Do ER docs have an earlier retirement age?
  5. Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a 4-week international emergency medicine elective sometime during March 2016 (preferred) or April 2016. I am hoping to get good hands-on experience with lots of learning. Do you guys think it would be most beneficial if I go to an English-speaking country only? I'm worried about not getting a full experience if there is a significant language barrier. I have already looked into South Africa and New Zealand a few months ago and they seem to be full from a while back. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
  6. Hey guys, Since most schools don't seem to notify everyone whether or not they got interviews, I thought I'd start a thread to see what school you have heard back from either way. Will try to come back and edit as time goes on: UofT, Mac, McGill UBC, Calg, Manitoba
  7. Registration is now open for the University of Colorado School of Medicine's three 2015 Pre-Med Emergency & Wilderness Medicine Program sessions. The Program includes Emergency Department shadowing with medical school faculty, EMS ride-alongs, labs, lectures from about 20 different faculty and many different specialties, a career panel, talks from the Admissions Office, CPR certification, optional Wilderness First Responder certification, and a camp-based experience. Sessions will be run in January, May-June, and August. The program is aimed at junior and senior level pre-med (or other health studies) students, but it is open to any and all undergraduate students and recent graduates. Three need-based scholarships--covering 100% of the University's fee--will be awarded for each of the three sessions. More information about the nearly two week program, held at our medical school in Denver and at a nearby Rocky Mountain summer camp and backcountry, can be found at our web site athttp://www.coloradowm.org/undergraduate_courses.html. Please contact Dr. Todd Miner at todd.miner@ucdenver.edu with questions.
