  1. For those of you currently in medical school or those who graduated recently, did you study histology/pathology in medical school? If so, how many hours per week do you spend in the histopath lab on average? Let me know what school you go/went to and what histology education looked like?
  2. Are they harder than the typical BIOL and CHEM labs for non-medical students?
  3. Can anyone who has taken path 3245b have any tips for pulling a 90 in this course? Which prof had difficult questions in particular? Yes. I have heard that 3245b is difficult. I have no choice but to take it since it's a compulsory course for me. I'm asking this since even path 3240A was hard this year (class avg a lot lower than last year). They don't post their slides, some profs were pretty poor at teaching, and there were quite a few questions from the assigned textbook readings. The course note did not do a good job of covering all the material either. I would strongly appreciate any input. Thanks in advance.
  4. Hi everyone, I passed the NDEB AFK exam and completed the equivalency process. I have few friends that came to Canada and we decided to get together and review basic science, pathology and pharmacology. My friends want to get together with a group. If any one is interested in Basic science, pathology and pharmacology review, please let me know, my email is Ahmad.hafez88@hotmail.com. The review is in Mississauga Ontario Canada. It will be beneficial for all. Hope to see ya
  5. I'm a first year resident and feel I've made a mistake in picking my residency. Although I enjoy much of the day to day work, I don't know about the fit long term and lifestyle wise. I had considered path in medical school and did an elective late in my last year of med school. Although I thoroughly enjoyed it, I ended up not applying and matching to my first ranked program. I know that PGY1 year can be taxing, but I find myself drained and burnt out. I've been thinking about the possibility of switching for a little while now, but haven't brought it up to anyone in person or spoken to it with my PD. Has anyone here gone though the experience of switching before, specifically with regards to path? Would I have to re-enter CaRMS or is switching internally possible? Any help is appreciated.
  6. I have been working my butt off in University and have stellar grades but I have always had a cloud of doubt over my head in terms of time consumption to obtain licensing as a practicing physician. I am currently doing a dual b.sc in Biology and Neuro and I was planning on applying to Medical schools next year. However..I was recently talking to one of my biology professors, he recommended I look into Pathology Assistant and Physician Assistant (does anybody know the difference besides gross anatomy vs general care?) I have always wanted to work in Pathology as I love the Science aspect of it but looking at the price of medical school, the time consumption, the questionable linking to actual preferred residence and then further licensing..I am going to be in my 30's before I can even begin paying off this boat load of debt. As a pathology assistant, it appears that it is a 2 year M.Sc, you get certified and you have hospitals, private clinics and schools throwing jobs at you with starting salaries in the low-mid 80's (climbing over 6 figures with experience). This is the same deal with Physician Assistants but you have a more broad spectrum of work and is a little more competitive due to the nature of the work (it is my understanding that a lot of people don't want to cut open suicide victims bodies on a daily etc). Logically, beside sometimes feeling like MD's monkey, why not go for this profession. ..am I missing something?
