  1. Hi, I'm a bit confused regarding LORs for U of C vs U of A and U of T. According to U of C's manual they would like each of the 3 referees to speak to a different set of attributes. While for U of A and U of T, I understand its just 3 generic LORs? In that case, would the referees have to produce 2 different letters (one for U of C, and one for the other 2 schools) or would the letters made for U of C suffice for the other 2 schools as they combine to speak to a comprehensive list of attributes? I figure its a lot to ask the referees to produce 2 sets of LORs but would really appreciate advice from past applicants on how they dealt with this? Thanks!
  2. Hey guys, So i was accepted into the u of calgary's biological sciences program and i was wondering what option i should take. I wanted to take psycology but i'm already taking a math, bio, chem, and physics class so I fear psycology will be to much. How hard is the class?(psyc) I'm atrocious at english so I also fear any class where I have to write an essay. I know I will have to write one at some point but hey, ignorance is bliss. Any advice anyone? Thanks a lot Mike
  3. Hey everyone, So, I really wanted to do neuroscience at u of c but, my english mark is dragging me down and I'm pretty much giving up on my dream as I've wanted to get into that program as soon as I heard about it. I have no clue what to do. What do I major in? Is there anything close to neuroscience that I could do? I heard the Health Science degrees are very english based so I can't do those. The general Biological Sciences degree are an option but, I hate ecology and you have to take those classes. Ugh, I'm just so stressed and I don't know what to do.
  4. Hey Guys, So I have no clue what to major in next year. I heard the three Health Science degrees at U of C are very english based, a subject I hate more than anything. Also, I read somewhere that the medical science classes you take along with the BHSc's degrees are very hard and they lower GPA's. Is this true? I really need some help. Additionally, I was wondering how hard the neuroscience program is to get into. I'm very interested in the brain and the nervous system in general. In my opinion, it is the most fascinating organ in the body. I just don't know what to do. I could go into biological sciences and call it there, but I hate ecology and you have to take some of those classes in the general bio program. I need help, any advice???
  5. Hi Just wondering if anyone can give me some direction on the chances of me getting an interview for Med. I haven't written my MCAT yet, but assuming I score well. Experiences include: volunteering in 3 labs, volunteering as an international peer mentor, intramurals, international exchange, tutor for at-risk youth, extremely involved in religious activities and youth groups Currently enrolled in a MPH graduate program Overall GPA (worst year deleted): 3.80
  6. Kinda embraced to post this but I just got a 120 on cars..... horrific! I don't even know how that happened honestly. I did decent on the rest of the sections. I just can't do reading comp. My GPA is high and I have tons of ECs. It's too late to redo the mcat this year so should I just save my money? Or gamble applying since it's mcat is only worth 10%?
  7. Hi there, I have a question about accepting more than one school to prolong the time to make a final decision. I'm an Albertan and was accepted to both UBC and U of C. Last week, I made a really difficult decision and chose to attend UBC, mainly based on the four year program and opportunity to live in Vancouver. I paid my $1000.00 deposit to UBC on Thursday. However, on Friday, after I paid my deposit, I got an email from U of C offering me a scholarship which would make a huge difference to the financial burden of med school. I haven't yet declined U of C and am feeling pressured to make a decision. Is it possible to pay both deposits at UBC and U of C and buy myself some more time? Does anyone know if the med schools will revoke my acceptance or anything of the sort if I do temporarily accept both? It would be really helpful to have some extra time to think things over before making a final decision. Thanks so much!
  8. Hi. I'm looking for a like-minded, reliable partner to work with to practice the MMI answers with. Totally cooperative, mutually beneficial set-up. I'm going to be in Banff from the 25-27th of Feb inclusive. Practice would take place in coffee shop, library, etc. looking to meet apprx 3-4 hours every day, bouncing questions back and forth. Please PM me if you are interested. Thanks
  9. To current U of C students (or anyone accepted at U of C) who've used MMI prep courses, Aside from the value of practicing general interview skills, did you find that they provided any insight into U of C's MMI itself? Did it give you any advice that you really found invaluable (i.e. things to make sure to mention, ways to address certain issues, less-than-obvious considerations specific to MMIs, etc?) Personally, I'm concerned that if I used a MMI prep course I might end up sounding contrived or formulaic. I worry that the evaluators might pick up on that (esp. since U of C admissions seems to lean a bit on the "anti-prep course" side (at least on ground of equality). Thoughts?

    Ucan Gpa

I'm getting a little confused. I looked at a few other threads but to no avail, for the most part. Is the GPA on the UCAN the weighted GPA? Or is it the cGPA? Mine seems like it has included my summer terms (one of which is detrimental to my GPA) and my worst year. I would be much obliged if someone could enlighten me, even if he/she thinks I am asking a stupid question!
