Hey folks, Any ideas on if any Canadian schools reject or frown upon taking an online course during undergrad? It happens to be a biochemistry course, which I know is a prereq for Ottawa. WIll this make any difference? Also, do these things matter for US schools, at least ones that accept Canadians?

Hi there, I am a grade 11 honours/AP student who has a passion for sciences and medicine. Recently I've been browsing these forms and I've seen that this site is generally a good place to gain advice from former students about University and post graduate endeavours, so I thought, 'hey, why not give it a try'. I am here to ask if anyone knows of any successful and fulfilling (financial and personally fulfilling) fields to go into after an undergraduate program such as Biomedical Sciences, Health Sciences and/or Biochemistry. I am also open to taking/planning on attending graduate school after undergrad if needed. I, of course, know that I can go to medical school and become a doctor (which in and of itself features a wide variety of specialities). However, I want to keep my options open. I really enjoy biology, chemistry and mathematics. I also love researching and working hands on in labs to find solutions to problems (so I looked into working in a hospital laboratory but the income wasn't too appealing). I just feel like the only medical career that will allow someone to be fulfilled (and financially successful), is a doctor [re-reading that statement I realize that it makes me seem very closed minded, which is why I need help]. Hopefully someone on here can shed some light on careers that are often over looked when choosing a career in Science and Medicine. Thank you for your help.

What is the difference between the two? What is significant about them?

Hi! I'm just a little confused with respect to finding the pI of an amino acid with multiple charged groups. Which is correct? 1) The pI = the average of all the pKa values of each group (pka1+pka2+pka3/3) or 2) The pI = the average of the pKa values on either side of the zwitterion? If you could provide an example with the explanation I would REALLY appreciate it! Thanks!

Hey guys! I was just wondering if anyone had any good websites/notes/info they would recommend in terms of amino acids for the new mcat. I find I don't quite understand a lot of questions related to them (i.e: "what charge would lysine have in ph 7?"). I would appreciate any kind of info you have to offer, including anything about the characteristics of each amino acid (i.e: which can H bond?) Thank you!!!

Hey everyone! I'm currently going into my third year at McMaster and have yet to take a biochemistry course - which some of the potential med schools I'm looking into specify needing. Many of my peers have taken Biochem 2EE3 but due to another required course and limited course listings, I cannot take it due to a conflict. Instead, I am considering Biochem 3G03 as an alternative. Both courses (according to course reviews) cover different material. To my fellow Marauders or Alumni who have gone on to pursue medicine, is either course particularly more beneficial or liked/needed by Med Schools? Or would either suffice? I think the general requirement of a 'biochemistry course' without further specification is leaving me double minded as to what kind of course exactly, since so many are offered under the subject. Any insight is greatly appreciated, as academic advising is a little hard to get ahold of during the summer. Thanks a lot!
