  1. Hello! I'm VERY interested in applying for the DMD program at UBC and have a few questions about admissions. A bit of background on me... I completed an undergrad degree in Business with a 3.2 GPA. I have yet to take the pre-reqs for the DMD program at UBC, as well as write the DAT and CASPER test before applying for the program. After my experiences I realized that dental is what I want to do and I'm aiming to complete the pre-reqs with good grades and complete the DAT and CASPER with high marks. I'm afraid that with my 3.2 undergrad GPA I have no chances of getting into the program at UBC but I'm hoping that the pre-reqs and DAT turn that around. I'm wondering if UBC assess the pre-reqs for the program over the undergrad degree? And how much weight GPA truly has on your application? I have some extra curriculars related to my undergrad but none for dental. Would it be a good idea to have some dental extra cirrculars for when I apply? Please help! What are my chances of getting accepted? Is there any possibility at all? Thanks so much!

  3. Has anyone applied into UBC DMD from UofA? Do you know which courses count as equivalent? I'm doing classes that are similar, is that fine or do they have to be almost exactly the same? Also how do they convert 4.0 scale to percentage? I've seen loads of conversions but I'm not sure so if anyone can help that would be great. Thanks
  4. Hey everyone! I wrote the Canadian DAT in Nov 2018 and was wondering if I could get any feedback from you all on my scores! I'm looking to apply in 2019 for both Canadian AND U.S schools and am currently debating whether I should try attempting the American DAT this summer, or even do the Canadian DAT once again in November... My scores were: 21AA 23 GC 18 BIO 21 RC 18 PAT My cumulative undergrad GPA (including summer school, but not this semester) is approximately a 3.79. If anyone had any advice or opinions regarding my DAT scores and whether they think these are fine or not, it would be much appreciated! Thanks
  5. I know I will not make it into Canadian dental schools due to the rough first year I had (due to major illness). I am a music major currently in my second year. My first year GPA was 2.4 (like I said, I was very sick), but first semester of this year, it was 3.3, which bumped my CGPA up to 2.74. I am hoping to bump it up even further by taking intersession courses this summer and working really hard for the rest of my undergrad. I am looking at US schools as a plan B. I was wondering if anyone has any info on Canadian friendly schools that may be options for me. I am hoping that my diverse background will work in my favour. I am pursuing a major in music (with the appropriate dental prereqs, of course). I have not written the DAT yet.

  8. Hello everyone, I graduated from Western in 2012 and went onto Case Western (Cleveland, Ohio) in the US for dental school. I graduated in 2016 and have been working in Ohio as a dentist. I know that this forum has been really helpful to me, so I really wanted to give back. Please let me know if any of you has questions about US dental schools. I will do my best to reply in a timely manner.
  9. hi guys, was wondering what my chances are of getting into any dental schools in the states with my current gpa and what schools i should apply to.So i graduated from a Canadian university with an average of ~70% (i know it's low ): ). I am currently finishing a dental hygiene program and was wondering if that would help me with my dental application (would dental schools look at that??). I am also doing two extra fourth year level undergrad science courses (getting an 80+ right now). I have some dental experiences and I will be doing my DAT by the end of the year. What are my chances of getting admitted to any american or even australian dental schools? thanks guys! (would help a lot if you can list some schools)
  10. Hi everyone! I am starting this thread because we should be hearing from McGill about interviews pretty soon. From previous threads, applicants have heard back around Jan 21st, and admissions said they should send them out before Jan. 26 so basically, we should hear from this by the end of the week. Please post below if you were accepted or rejected, IP or OOP, GPA and hours of volunteer/extra-curricular work Good luck to everyone!
  11. Hi Everyone! I was wondering if anyone could shine some light onto some good MMI interview prep companies that prepare well for interviews (particularly dental ones)? Looking to get some professional help but with an abundance of companies, I don't know which would be best. Personal experience with different companies (the good and bad) would be extremely valuable. Thanks in advance!

  13. I've looked at a billion forums and discussions online, checked the university statistics but I want someone to give me the reality check. I'm majoring in Biochemistry (honors program) at a canadian university. I'll be applying to american and canadian dental schools next year. And my cumulative average is 81.55% and major average is 82.22%. Given that I do well on the DAT and that I will be doing my thesis this year, I'll probably be doing some dental shadowing, do I have a chance? I know other factors count but I need to know my chances based solely on the information provided.

I'm pretty much bilingual, but I'm still a bit anxious about studying in English, mainly because of the more scientific vocabulary that I'll have to learn. Is the transition that hard? What should I choose?
  16. Hello. I have been looking for a dentist to shadow. Here is what I did. I tried to find a job in the dental office. But only found out that they only accept dental assistant and receptionist with diplomas. I emailed a few dentists who replied that they were not available. Any advice on how to find a dentist to shadow in Toronto?
  17. Has anyone used the American DAT to apply to UofT? I emailed them asking whether Canadian students can use the American DAT and they responded saying that it is allowed. However, on their website, it states: The American Dental Admission Test (DAT) is an acceptable equivalent for applicants living or attending school outside of Canada I'm not sure what this statement means, but it implies that Canadian university students cannot use the ADAT in application process. Any info on this topic would be appreciated!
  18. Im currently in my 4th year of undergrad at UofT (scarborough). My first two years were horrible in terms of GPA (around 1.8 I'm assuming) but my last two years were relatively higher than 3.0 (depending on which semester, in some semesters I got 3.1 and 3.3 etc) and my overall GPA (cumulate 4 years) would be 2.2 I think atm. However, Ive been searching that they will drop my worse year and that they will consider my best two years (depending on the school). And Ive heard that my courses have to be full course load but my UofT (UTSC) considers 60% full course load (3 per semester) in which I have done, in some semesters I had 4 or 5 courses. So I was planning on taking DENTAL PREP COURSES in the summer (while finishing my last course to graduate) and hopefully apply for November exam or the February exam time. As ive mentioned, my cumulative GPA isn't good looking but my last two years I'm trying really hard to get above 3.5gpa in UofT. I'm trying to apply within Canada dental schools. So what are my chances of getting in? should I do my masters at UofT first and then do the DAT exam or go for it this semester? I feel like its not enough right now cos of my GPA (either my last two years or my cumulative). What are your opinions guys? Really could appreciate the help. Thanks.
  20. Hi guys, I've tried searching on this but couldn't find anything, so I was hoping someone might be able to comment. For those who have written both the Canadian and American DATs and have/are applying to the States, do schools even bother looking at the Canadian one if you've written the American version? Do you even have to send your Canadian scores to schools if you're sending American ones? (I understand that some schools only accept the American one or prefer it over the Canadian one, but I'm just asking in general) I've scored well (21+) on all parts of the cDAT except for carving, which American schools claim to not look at, but I think my carving score might have put a flag on my application this cycle. It's too late to apply for the February DAT this year, and if I write the November one, the American schools won't get the scores in time. If I were to send aDAT scores and did well, do you think this compensates for my one low mark on the cDAT?
  21. Hey guys, I am a civil engineering student at UBC in my third year interested in dental school. My question is regarding work/volunteer experience. Since I am in engineering, I do co-op every summer (4-8 month long work terms). Thus, I do not have as much time to do research or volunteer in health science related fields as a science student would. Will this hurt my chances of getting accepted or will my engineering co-op experience be seen as a positive? Should I instead focus my entire summer on volunteering/working in health science related areas? Thanks in advance
  22. Hi everyone, I am in my third year majoring in civil engineering at UBC and am interested in applying to dental school. I have taken most required bio/chem/biochem courses. My first question is how do you convert your average grade in percentage to GPA? I tried looking on the school websites on their methods since every school is different, but have had no luck so far. Does anyone have links to these pages? FYI my cumulative average is 82% and 85% if you take out my worst year (If you know what GPA this is roughly please let me know!) Next, I know that it is extremely competitive to get into dental school. Looking at just my current GPA alone, do I have any chance of getting into an American/Canadian dental school? And if so, which ones? Lastly, do dental schools take into account how heavy of a course load someone has when looking at GPA? Thanks in advance
  23. Hi All, How does one most effectively finance Dental school expenses (tuition+living). From what I have read so far it seems that people are taking out LOCs. Although banks generally offer lower rates on LOCs vs traditional loans, I still feel that it may be very difficult to pay off the ever-increasing monhtly compounded interest. Are there other forms of financial aid that one can apply to (e.g. government loans/bursaries)? Any advice is appreciated
