  1. Hey guys, Like a good few of us, I'm sure, I got waitlisted for UBC's DMD 2028 admissions cycle. I wanted to start this forum so we can keep track of the waitlist, and see if any movement occurs. . .for our cases, hopefully lots of movement this year!! Fingers crossed we all get where we need to be!
  2. I'm currently a dental student in first year and I've seen numerous forums and discussions about the fall of dentistry. I want to see if any newly grads or dental students have any concerns or positive insights/myth busters. Also, no I'm not in dentistry just for the money. I like the detailed manual work and I think I'm kind of good at it for someone who just started. But the concerns listed online are so overwhelming that it makes me think my interest in the profession is not going to be enough for me to even pay off my student debt let alone make a comfortable living.
  3. We’re excited to announce that A.C.C.E.S.S. Inc. has now been expanded to provide support for dental school applicants! We provide a free one-stop service that can help address application-related questions from applicants belonging to but not limited to: individuals of under-represented ethnicities in dentistry, those who have faced or continue to face socio-economic challenges due to familial or life circumstances, or those living with a disability or a life-altering illness. Visit our website at http://www.admissionsaccess.com to start your application! Application deadline: October 22, 2023 at 11:59 PM Application is on a rolling basis https://www.instagram.com/p/CyYwpd8LedW/?igshid=MTc4MmM1YmI2Ng%3D%3D&img_index=1
  4. Hey! I was wondering if anyone from previous years applications can tell me what exact dates in June that admissions offers were posted for the University of Manitoba DMD program. I know last year for example was the 20th. I have anxiety and having a good estimate so I can count down would be super duper.
  5. Has anybody applied to the UManitoba dentistry program as a special applicant?
  6. Hello, I am a Canadian student planning to apply to the US. I have around a 3.5 GPA, taking my DAT next November so hoping to get at least 20+, and I have extensive amount of extracurriculars and shadowing experience. Honestly, my extras are amazing. I started 2 university clubs catering towards the healthcare field, I am on the pre-dental committee, I started an organization that connects young entrepreneurs to attract mentorship opportunities in my community, I have been working as a pharmacy technician for 3 years, and I have around 500+ shadowing hours at 2 dentists and an orthodontist. Overall, My extracurriculars are really strong. (Pm if you want the full list), my GPA would be around a 3.5 at the time of admission, and hoping my DAT score would be around a 20+. That being said, what are my chances of getting into an American dental school? Considering I would be an international student and my GPA isn't as high as most international students, can my extracurriculars, personal statement, and letter of recommendations potentially make up for that? Also, The reason for my low GPA is only due to my first year of university studies. All my other years have been an A average or above. (3.85+) . Would they also take that into account? I would appreciate all your thoughts and opinions!
  7. Salut!! La date du premier TAED approche bientôt donc j'ai pensé commencer une discussion sur l'admission en DMD pour l'automne 2021 si jamais vous avez des questions sur quoi que ce soit! Heeyy! The first DAT exam is coming up soon so I thought of starting a discussion for the fall 2021 dentistry admissions in case you had any questions!
  8. Hi guys! Congratulations to those who got in! For those who got waitlisted and got rejected, it's not the end! Just curious about the stats this year so please feel free to share if you feel like it! Include your (1) DAT SCORE including AA and PAT, (2) GPA with lowest year dropped, and (3) Year / whether or not you took Masters.
  9. Hi everyone! I'm doing my undergrad degree at the moment and I'm considering going abroad to study dentistry! I just recently found out that there are some graduate schools in Australia that are 4 years long if you have an undergrad degree (which I plan on getting). I know there has been lots of discussion on this but I wanted to start a discussion about what option is best if I'm interested in in studying abroad and wanting to come back to practice in Canada. I am genuinely interested in studying abroad and I'm not trying to "pay my way through dental school". That being said, my family and I do have the finances for me to study abroad. I have also considered schools in the States but I feel that the problem with US schools is that they have a different standard for each school. I know some schools that don't offer enough practice and students coming back from there have a hard time finding a job with the little experience that they have recieved at that school. On top of that, the exchange rate is quite high and is probably more expensive than schools in Australia and in Ireland (I would imagine). I have heard multiple times that Australia has some of the top rated dental/ medical schools! Is anyone in the same position? I would love to hear some opinions on this! Also, I would love any advice from students who are studying abroad or have come back to practice!
  10. Hello, I'm a second year science student at university of Manitoba and I have few of my core science courses to take in the future with some electives. To those of you who have applied to university of Manitoba dentistry, what electives did you take? (In need of GPA boosters XD) Thank you in advance!
  11. Hi there, I am a third year undergrad trying to get into Dentistry, specifically aiming for the University of Manitoba. If anyone could help and steer me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. There's a lot of info on here but most of it is for other schools such as UofT. So I guess I have a couple of questions for anyone who knows about UManitoba's acceptance rates, averages etc. 1) There is a lot of talk AGPAs but not a lot about core course averages. If you were accepted or know anyone who has been accepted into the program, do you mind sharing your AGPA as well as your core course GPA? I'm asking because I would like to know if anyone has ever been accepted with a low core course GPA of 3.7 (which happens to be mine lol). 2) I find myself stressed trying to get all A's in my science courses. In my first year I managed to get all A's. In my second year and third year I got a range of B and B+'s. Is there room for error in getting B's and B+'s? or is my dream of being a dentist over because I don't have all A's? 3) UManitoba lists their minimum core course average and DAT score on the application as 3.60 (2019) and 18.50 (2019). This being the minimum, would you have a good chance of being accepted being near the minimum? Some previous applicants who I have seen on this forum have GPAs typically around 3.9-4 range. 4) Are only the top students accepted into the program? Like those who have high GPAs and high DAT scores? Or is there a chance with those who have a mediocre GPA/DAT and possibly a good interview? To anyone that answers, thank you for any advice.
  12. Forum for anyone applying to McGill Dentistry 2021 :)
  13. Hey guys thought I’d start this to get an idea of what people’s stats were who applied and for people on the waitlist, since it seems like applications were more competitive this year. OOP/ IP: Accepted/ Rejected/ Waitlisted: AGPA: DAT: Interview thoughts (if you want):
  14. IP / OOP / International Result: Invite / Reject / Waitlist for Interview cGPA: sGPA: DAT (PAT and MDT): ECs: Year: UG (what year), Masters, PhD
  15. I'm an OOP applying this cycle. Wondering if they look at the best two years or all of them.
  16. Salut! Je propose de commencer ici un nouveau thread pour toute question et suivi de l'admission DMD 2020 Ulaval et UdeM
  17. Hey Guys, I stumbled upon this test prep ebook which presents information tested on the Canadian (written) and American (part II) board exams in point form. I thought it was a solid purchase, and wanted to share it with you. Good Luck!!! https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B085QN35M8
  18. I have to complete 1 chemistry and 2 physics courses to open some doors applications wise. Would taking courses online be an appropriate way to approach this? Specifically I'm wondering if UofA accepts online physics courses (do they care about lab?) any help appreciated
  19. (1) What is the process of applying for the DOTP like and how competitive is it to get in (academically and physically)? (2) Is it possible to apply for the DOTP during your second or third year of dental school? (3) I feel like I would like working for the Canadian Forces as I always have had a knack for adventure, but if I had to end my contract earlier (e.g. if I wanted to open a private practice even before my obligatory service ends), how huge will the penalty be? (4) I know it helps to be bilingual but do the Forces still consider you if you only speak English? Also, feel free to share your experiences about going through the DOTP and also your life as a dental officer. What is your everyday life like and how do you like it? Thank you!!
