  1. Since US medical school admission takes grade inflation into account, is it right to say Western Med Sci (for which 80% = 4.0 on the American GPA scale) would be a better option than Mac Health Sci if you plan to go to a US medical school?
  2. Good Morning guys! Hope everyone had a great weekend! I am a graduating high school student from Ontario, and was lucky enough to receive an offer from the Health Sciences program at McMaster! I have accepted my offer, and plan on heading there in the fall. However, I still have a lot of questions about course selection, residences, and general university life at McMaster. So, I was wondering if there were any past/current students from McMaster Health Sciences or Life Sciences who would be willing to answer some of my questions. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!
  3. I have been admitted to the following programs, and I'm trying to decide which program to enter: Western Medical Science McGill Life Science/Biomedical McMaster Life Science Queen's Science University of Guelph Biomedical Sciences York U Kin/Life Science I've looked at the courses of all the programs above, and I love them all. I wouldn't mind campus environment, scenery, and location. So I guess I'm just asking which program has the best student to professor ratio and is the easiest to achieve a high GPA. My end goal is med school (LOL, like everyone). Currently, I'm leaning towards Western's Medical Science, but I'm turned off by the extremely large class numbers and high student to professor ratios. I also applied to McMaster Health Science and iSci, but sadly got rejected from both So if there are alumni, current students, or anyone else who knows about the programs, please help me out. THANK YOU FOR HELPING A CONFUSED PRE-PREMED P.S: I understand that you can get into med school from any degree and school, but I would like a low student to professor ratio.
  4. Hi everyone, I was thinking about transferring into UWO health sci program from another university. I was wondering if any current students or graduates from the program could provide feedback on the program. Whether that be about the difficulty of the program, how subjective the courses tended to be, etc. Thank you in advance! Your help is really appreciated as I'm trying to decide whether or not I should transfer!
  5. If you were offered a $48 000 scholarship to Queen's as well as admission to McMaster health sciences, which one would you choose?
  6. Following University of Calgary: Health Sciences or Biological Science? Hi. I'm applying to the University of Calgary. I just have a question on which program is better (e.g. pros vs. cons). I recently read a post on here about a student transferring from Health Sciences to Biological Sciences (for reasons such as GPA, essay grading, a course specific to Health Science, etc.) and so I'm re-considering applying to Health Sciences. Are there any major pros and cons to taking Health Sciences versus taking Biological Sciences? In addition to my question above: In the event that I do not get into Medical School, I want to be able to take Dentistry at the University of Alberta. Do both programs satisfy the pre-professional for Dentistry at the U of A? Requirements: General Chemistry (*6) Organic Chemistry (*6) Biology(*6) Physics (*6) English (*6) Statistics (*3) Introductory Biochemistry (*3) Notes: *3 is equivalent to one half year course *6 is equivalent to one full year course or two half year courses Which of the two programs would best suit me, considering that I want to be able to take Dentistry at the U of Alberta? I would honestly appreciate any advice on these two programs.
  7. Hello everyone here at premed101. I am a grade 12 student who is looking to apply for my undergraduate school very soon. Like most of people on this forum, I am looking to apply for medical school, once I graduate my bachelors. One of the various programs I am applying for is McGill's Anatomy and Cellular Biology due to strong personal interest. Does anyone, especially those who had done this program, have any thoughts (program difficulty, quality of education and professor, admission, etc.) whatsoever on this?
  8. Hey, I was accepted to McMaster's BHSc program and I was wondering if the content of the Biomedical sciences specialization has the amount of science I would learn in another program or if I should minor in some other science field while at Mac or if I should just avoid mac all together Here's the courses for the specialization in second year: CHEM 2OA3 HTH SCI 2A03 - STATISTICS HTH SCI 2D06 - INQUIRY II (TRANSFERS ONLY) HTH SCI 2G03 - EPIDEMIOLOGY HTH SCI 2K03 - CELL BIOLOGY BIOCHEM 2L06 BIOCHEM 2B03, 2BB3 HTH SCI 1BS0 There's also these 2nd year BHSc programs that I'd like to take but idk how many courses I can take in one year yet HTH SCI 2F03 - HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY & ANATOMY I HTH SCI 2FF3 - HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY & ANATOMY II HTH SCI 2G03 - EPIDEMIOLOGY HTH SCI 2J03 - HEALTH, ATTITUDE & BEHAVIOUR HTH SCI 2K03 - CELL BIOLOGY HTH SCI 1BS0 - BIOSAFETY TRAINING Third: HTH SCI 3E03 - INQUIRY III HTH SCI 3G03 -CRITICAL APPRAISAL OF THE MEDICAL LITERATURE HTH SCI 3V03 - RESEARCH AND EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN 6-9 units from: Level III/IV Biochemistry courses BIOCHEM 3D03 - METABOLISM AND REGULATION CHEM 2OB3 Fourth: 6-9 units from: Level III/IV BIOCHEM HTH SCI 3SB3, 4II3, 4J03 MOL BIOL 4H03 BIOCHEM 4E03 9-12 units from: BIOCHEM 4F09 - SENIOR THESIS IN BIOCHEMISTRY AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY, OR HTH SCI 4R12 - SENIOR THESIS I really enjoy science so I would be willing to work hard for a good GPA but I just want to know if this is a good program as my goal is to be a physician-scientist. I was looking at UofT's MD/PhD alumni and there were a handful of Mac BHSc holders so I guess that indicates that this program can prepare you for a career in science? idk Edit: there's also this on the site: A ‘research intensive' option, available to students registered in this specialization, offers additional laboratory research experience through completion of HTH SCI 3R06 and HTH SCI 4R12. This option is intended for students planning to pursue graduate studies or a career in research and development. Enrolment in the courses is limited and admission is by selection.
