  2. Advice Needed!: Whats better to purchase? The MCAT Official Question Packs or the Online Official Guide Questions? Thank you!
  3. I've seen the formula A=Ao(1/2)^(t/h) given for half life and I forgot how to solve for t! Any ideas? If you guys have any other better ways for half life problems please post below! thanks!
  4. What is the difference between the two? What is significant about them?
  5. Hi! I'm just a little confused with respect to finding the pI of an amino acid with multiple charged groups. Which is correct? 1) The pI = the average of all the pKa values of each group (pka1+pka2+pka3/3) or 2) The pI = the average of the pKa values on either side of the zwitterion? If you could provide an example with the explanation I would REALLY appreciate it! Thanks!
  6. Hi! When are the breaks scheduled for the sections? (and how long are they?) For those who have written, how did you maintain stamina? Thank you!
  7. I find that when I do the Physical/Chem section, calculations really slow me down, especially when converting from kg to g, or doing mole calculations. Any advice or good ideas to follow/practice to do? I've tried estimating as recommended by TPR but I still seem to be very slow in exponents.
  8. I often get confused about where these are used and what they are made of (tubulin, actin...etc.). Is there any good ways of remembering important things about them? Thanks!
  9. Hey guys! I was just wondering if anyone had any good websites/notes/info they would recommend in terms of amino acids for the new mcat. I find I don't quite understand a lot of questions related to them (i.e: "what charge would lysine have in ph 7?"). I would appreciate any kind of info you have to offer, including anything about the characteristics of each amino acid (i.e: which can H bond?) Thank you!!!
  10. Hi there! I was wondering what people I should be familiar with for the MCAT (ex: famous psychologists, theories)? Thank you!
  11. Hi guys! What is the best studying material for the new MCAT 2015? I'd appreciate any kind of input - especially from those who have written the test! THANKS!
  12. Hi guys, i was looking through the new MCAT score scales PDF that AAMC released and was a little confused : https://www.aamc.org/students/download/378098/data/mcat2015scorescaleguide.pdf I am a little confused about what they are trying to get across here. For example it almost seems that they are suggesting to application reviewers that scoring in the middle center (bolded section below) or "top of the bell curve" described on page 6 is better than scoring in the 90+ percentile? I just thought id see if anyone else has read this and got the same idea or if i am just completely missing the point here? The Benefits of the New Exam The new exam will provide better information than the current exam. As we already mentioned, the blueprints for the new exam reflect the requirements of current curricula. The quantitative and qualitative research that supports the definition and development of the new MCAT exam is strong. The new exam will test concepts that medical school faculty, residents, and medical students recently rated as most important to medical students’ success. Each of the sections of the new exam includes more questions than the current exam sections. Scores from the new sections will provide better information about applicants’ strengths and weaknesses than current exam scores. As we just described, the score reports for the new exam will provide percentile ranks that order test takers in relation to others taking the new exam, confidence bands that describe the accuracy of scores, and score profiles that highlight applicants’ strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, the score scales give special attention to scores in the center of the scales. This makes sense because history shows that the vast majority of students who enter medical school with scores in the center of the current scales graduate on time and pass their USMLE Step exams on the first attempt.3 The data show that students with a wide range of MCAT scores and UGPAs have succeeded in medical school, demonstrating admissions committees’ skill in combining information about applicants’ qualifications from applications, transcripts, letters, and interviews with information about medical schools’ curricula, support services, and graduation requirements to accept students likely to succeed. Importantly, emphasizing the center of the scale, rather than the top third, is consistent with holistic review practices.
  13. I'm looking to buy books for the new MCAT (2015) - any advice on which company is the best to go with? (Princeton, Kaplan, etc.) I'm willing to spend as much as it takes! P.S - any advice from those who have already taken it? Thank you!
  14. Hi all, I have taken the MCAT past summer and studied on my own with Kaplan/Princeton books and found the MCAT a little challenging and was hoping to take a class with princeton or kaplan this summer as the new MCAT seems to be more difficult. I'm working full-time but think I have enough time to prep if I want to take the exam in July but I do need additional help to prepare this time around. For those of you who have taken classes to prepare for the MCAT, which company do you recommend and why? does anyone support buying the online version from either princeton or kaplan instead of paying more for their classroom sessions? Any help is appreciated as I'm super confused.
  15. Hi everyone, I've written the old MCAT multiple times and previously prepared with a TPR course and EK books. I found both very helpful and I think the course was really key for keeping me on track and providing materials. This summer I need to write the new MCAT, and I'm looking into taking a course as well (I figure even though I've done an MCAT course before, it will be critical to do one for the new test since it will be fairly different). I had a good experience with TPR before, but Kaplan is also a reputable company and they seem to have a better selection of classes in terms of dates and times in Toronto. Wondering if anyone has taken Kaplan before and if they have been happy with it? Any advice on Kaplan vs TPR? I will also likely buy the new EK set since their stuff is always great. Thanks! Maggie
  16. Hello Everyone, I just received my mcat results and I am utterly disappointed I got a measly score of 24: PS 7 VR 7 BS 10... I know that I would definitely have to re-write the mcat but I am having a hard time deciding whether I should book my exam in January so I could still write the old one, or whether I should just spend next summer full-on studying and write the new one. If I write in January I wouldn't have much time to study considering I will be a full-time student with many demanding classes and of course EC's.....What should I do?!? The schools I am interested in applying to next year are: uOttawa, Mac, Queens, Toronto, McGill My stats are: cGPA of 3.56, 2-year GPA of 3.76 All input and advice would be TREMENDOUSLY appreciated!
