  1. The lifetime maximum for OSAP funding is 340 weeks (non doctoral) and 400 weeks (doctoral). Eventually, I'll run out of funding (13 years total in school), but I will complete my PhD before entering my final years of medicine. Does the maximum only apply while you're in the doctorate program, and go back to the 340 weeks when I am completing my MD? Or does it stay at 400 weeks throughout my time at school? *Mainly asking because income is higher during the PhD and I won't get any grants, whereas I can maximize funding in my MD years if I forego funding now. Just wondering if anyone on these boards had experience with this! Thanks!
  2. People who have had the interview at UBC for MD/PhD or are currently in the program, do you guys know when they will release the admission results? Thanks!
  3. Hi everyone, With the MD/PhD interviews rolling out from all of the schools, I was just wondering how one prepares for an MD/PhD interview? I understand that there is an obvious component of knowing your own publications/involvements as well as knowing why you want to do an MD/PhD, but what about the MMI and the panel? Should applicants/interviewees prepare differently? There are also more diversity in the way different schools interview applicants and if there are any MD/PhD out there that have interviewed at multiple schools and could break down how each interviewed their applicants I'd really appreciate it! Thank you, BoopityBoop
  4. Hey everyone, I had a few lingering questions regarding the process for the MD/PhD programs, specifically Ontario. 1. Can an applicant apply to both the MD program and the MD/PhD option on OMSAS? 2. Can an individual be rejected from an MD/PhD pre-interview but still receive an invite to interview for the MD program only? The reason I ask this question is because I know MD/PhD interviews are usually done a few weeks earlier than MD-only interviews. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks !
  5. Hey guys, I have a friend (from Canada) who applied to the MD/PhD at a bunch of US schools, then opting out of the PhD option when getting accepted. He said the reason for this is a lot of schools do not take Canadian students unless they apply for the MD/PhD. 1. Are you able to bail out without any repercussions? 2. Is this a widespread practice? 3. Does this increase your chances of getting into med school overall? I did a quick search on the forums, but couldn't really find the answer I was looking for (although I might have missed it). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Hey you! Are you accepting your MD/PhD offer to UofT? If so please message me and I'll add you to our Facebook group. Congratulations all incoming MD/PhD students!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You made the best decision of your life! (seriously!! our program rocks!)
  7. Hey, did the MD/PhD rules change recently??? I thought that if you applied for the joint program and got into the MD but not MD/PhD you would not get into either program, did this change recently or was I just cross-eyed from all the applications I was doing at that time? Also, does anyone have experience applying for the MD/PhD program as a first year PhD student at UBC...please PM me, as I have a few questions.
  8. I'm going to need some advice on whether I'm being realistic with my goal to do a MD/PhD at UofT. I'm currently a 2nd year MSc student at McGill and want to go to UofT to study regenerative medicine clinically and academically as an MD/PhD. I applied to OMSAS last fall and got rejected from UofT, but got an interview at another ontario university. I know I should be happy I have at least an interview for med school, but I honestly only really care about going to UofT because of the financial research support in regenerative medicine, principle investigators, surgical advancements in upper extremity transplants, clinicians, and other opportunities that would allow me to delve into regenerative medicine as a medical scientist candidate. How realistic am I being for thinking of staying for another year in my Masters (PI already okay with this idea) to boost my extra curricular activity to apply next year? Does this seem futile? A little bit about me: -GPA 3.72 (Yeah I know its not great, I didn't really care about my gpa because I wanted to go into research right after undergrad) -2 academic papers: critical review (first author), biomed paper (second author), third paper on the way for MSc -CGS-M NSERC scholarship -McGill Faculty of medicine scholarship (ranked first among all applying MSc and PhD candidates in the faculty) -Department poster prize winner -Relatively little extra curriculars currently with only volunteering at church and church related events
  9. Hey guys, I was wondering if we could start a thread for specifically the MD/PhD applicants, where we can discuss the application process, the requirements for specific programs, interviews and stats. There is not a specific thread that i could find where all prospective students can come together and discuss and help each other out. I am not sure if this goes against any of the rules for the forum or not, so if the moderators don't agree then we don't have to proceed. Schools applied: GPA: Undergrad or grad student: Publications: Something along those lines
  10. To anyone out there who's also applying to the MD/PhD program at UofT, it seems like the only document we have to actually mail in (physically) is the Academic CV. Am I right? I just can't seem to believe that that is all we need to do (besides the 3 LORs and the OMSAS Essay 10 on the application system itself). I'm just being paranoid and afraid that i'm missing something (such as a personal statement/ letter of intent that schools such as Queen's, Ottawa and UBC require).
  11. Just an FYI - nothing too major here, but there are some updates for grad applicants and MD/PHD applicants (first page). http://www.ouac.on.ca/docs/omsas/b_omsas_e.pdf Things of note: -additional material must be received (not submitted) by November 1 (before Nov. 1 for MD/PHD applicants) -the extra reference letter(s) should be mailed to OMSAS -the Academic CV should be uploaded through SAM
