  1. I was going through a list of information online about the advantages/ disadvantages of pursuing a PhD if you are dead certain about entering the field of academic neurosurgery. A curious trend I observed is that, it is possible to receive a PhD in neurosurgery while doing your residency. One of the big examples I can think of is Dr Michael G. Fehlings who is the Krembil Chair in Neural Repair & Regeneration at U of T. More info: http://neurosurgery.utoronto.ca/faculty/list/fehlings.htm How would one compare/ contrast this with the more traditional MD/PhD curriculum in terms of duration of the program? I ask this because I am wondering if a post-doctral fellowship ensues after a residency or if one has substantial research experience during both med, residency, and fellowship the post-doc is not mandatory? (Note: I made a similar post in the U of T med forum, but I was not sure where was most appropriate to make the post. I apologize in advance for any inconveniences.)
  2. Has anyone here done the neuroscience program at the university of calgary? What would be my chances of getting in, my grade 11 average is around 94.6%. How are the research opportunities? How difficult is it? Can anyone compare it to the biomed program at UofC? How are the profs and other students? Also just any general information about Calgary and the university would be helpful!! thank you
  3. Hey Guys, So, I've just been accepted into the Unversity of Lethbridge Neuroscience program and I'm just wondering how good the program is and if it's actually as good as people say it is. Also, if anyone here has been to the U of Lethbridge can they tell me how their experience was? I'm just trying to figure out if I should go there. Thanks a lot everyone!
  4. Hey everyone, So, I really wanted to do neuroscience at u of c but, my english mark is dragging me down and I'm pretty much giving up on my dream as I've wanted to get into that program as soon as I heard about it. I have no clue what to do. What do I major in? Is there anything close to neuroscience that I could do? I heard the Health Science degrees are very english based so I can't do those. The general Biological Sciences degree are an option but, I hate ecology and you have to take those classes. Ugh, I'm just so stressed and I don't know what to do.
  5. Hey Guys, So I have no clue what to major in next year. I heard the three Health Science degrees at U of C are very english based, a subject I hate more than anything. Also, I read somewhere that the medical science classes you take along with the BHSc's degrees are very hard and they lower GPA's. Is this true? I really need some help. Additionally, I was wondering how hard the neuroscience program is to get into. I'm very interested in the brain and the nervous system in general. In my opinion, it is the most fascinating organ in the body. I just don't know what to do. I could go into biological sciences and call it there, but I hate ecology and you have to take some of those classes in the general bio program. I need help, any advice???

    Psych Research For Ug?

Hey, I'm a 2nd year UG who has been accepted to volunteer in a research lab close to me. It focuses on communication and hearing, so it's a bit of neuro but mostly psych. I really am interested in any kind of research. The PI and PDFs seem really nice and I like the environment but I was wondering about the med school application aspect of this. Should I apply to more "medically related" research labs or stick with this one? Would research in psych (but kinda neuro) even be a plus on my app? also disclaimer - I'm not just doing research for my application. I genuinely am interested in it, but I wanted to make sure that the research I contribute to is one that I can talk about in my application/interview. Thanks for your help!
  7. Salut! Merci!
