  1. Hi , I was wondering if anyone knew if the geographic location in the sketch should be a postal code or a town/city name? I was thinking that they might be used in the NOSM context calculation. I can't seem to find anywhere, where it's specified though. Thanks for your help.
  2. Hey, Been reading up on NOSM and trying to look for admission stats and I found some but I'm not sure if it makes sense. I know NOSM has a bias towards applicants from rural settings, particularly northern ontario, but do they always reject applicants from urban areas? I don't see it written anywhere that only rural applicants are applied, but that seems to be what the admission stats I saw say. Has anyone gotten in from urban areas? thanks
  3. Hello, Hoping we can use this thread to support each other with our essay questions. I am currently working on this question: "Describe an incident in your adult life when you had to deal with failure or error and what you learned from the experience." What would be the best way to target this question? I am a mature applicant and have a few example of failures. But I am not sure if I should use one that is academic in nature or personal (financial, professional, relationship, etc...)? Or do you think we should keep it closely related to health care? Thanks
  4. I have read in several places on premed 101 (and heard from several other students) that multiple family medicine programs allow you to add applications to additional sites (within their program) after interviewing. I am having trouble finding reference to this within the carms program description pages. I am wondering if anyone knows: 1. Which FM programs you can add additional site applications to late? (Particularly interested in UBC, Dalhousie, NOSM, and Memorial.) 2. How to logistically do this---assuming within carms portal exactly as you applied for other programs? 3. If we decide BEFORE the interview (i.e. now) that we would like to add a site application if we can do that? Really appreciate the help!
  5. I know this gets asked a lot, but I would like advice on what my chances on getting in to NOSM would be based on what I have now. I need to decide if I should go back to school before trying to apply next year. Trad/Non-Trad: 23 year old male (Non-Traditional - second career, currently a full-time teacher) Degrees: B.A. - Geography B.Ed. GPA: 3.57 Context: Born and raised in Northern Ontario, & studied in Northern Ontario. Never lived anywhere else. I am Francophone & have a lower generation métis identification (I'm sure if it will count for consideration though, as it is a lower generation). Employment/ ECs / Volunteer: -Full-time permanently employed elementary teacher (2 years now) in Northern Ontario, including rural areas. -Education research intern for Nipissing University -Former YMCA employee & volunteer -Summer camp coordinator & supervisor -Plenty of volunteer experience in various fields -Annual food drive organizer -Organized many charitable events -Awards & recognition: a combination of awards for community service & two undergrad scholarships for academics and research My biggest concerns are my GPA and my lack of direct medical experience. Before applying, should I go take some courses to up my GPA? I know I should expand my volunteer experience in the medical field also, that's something I'm working on.
  6. How does NOSM verify where you lived during your childhood? I went to high school in a big city but during my childhood I moved around in remote northern towns in quebec. Will NOSM require some sort of documentation to prove whereI lived as a kid? Will they ask about it on the interview? Or do they simply just go off what you state in the questionnaires? Thanks guys
  7. Hello! Admissions Questionnaire: What are the questions? Is it like an essay? Any help would be appreciated Thanks

  10. Hi! Received news of being selected for an interview at NOSM. I self-identified as a Francophone my OMSAS application (I grew up speaking french and was enrolled in a Francophone school but it has been a few years and I'm feeling a little rusty). I am wondering if anyone has any advice on what to study for the French fluency assessment in the interview? Looking for a breakdown of the assessment and if anyone has gone through this process before. Thank you for your help, appreciate any advice!

  12. Hi there I am looking to find out the admissions stats for applicants applying through the aboriginal streams. I am specifically interested in University of Ottawa and NOSM. I am looking at applying and can not find very much info on aboriginal applicants that have been previously accepted or applied. If there is anyone that has applied to medical school as an aboriginal student and gotten an interview or been accepted please share you GPA, and EC's below. And any other info if you feel necessary. My info: GPA: 3.7 (after two years, intend on applying to UOttawa) EC's: volunteering, coaching, lots of volunteering, but no research. Stream: English, Aboriginal applicant From: Northern Ontario

  14. Hi everyone! I am new to these forums, but I have always searched these forums for help and important information. You guys have a wonderful community going on here. I have a question that is specific to my particular application, however, so I am hoping that you guys can help me out! My question is this: in the NOSM application "supplementary questions" section where you have to declare languages that are "spoken fluently by the applicant", I want to know whether or not I can (or should) include French? I may be answering my own question with this follow-up statement, but I was looking for someone else's opinion to be 100% sure. I am not exactly fluent to the point where I can engage in constant conversations with confidence, however, I have started taking French conversational courses at my university to show my dedication to NOSM and their Francophone focus. I hope to soon be fluent as I have always wanted to master the French language. Basically, I just want to know whether I should include French in the language options, where I could always explain to the ADCOMS that I am practicing French through additional educational courses if it came up in the interview, or whether it is better to leave it out and avoid any problems from the ADCOMS as they may find my inclusion of French misleading. I don't know how else to show them that I want to be confidently bilingual on the application without selecting French in the language options menu. Any help with this is greatly appreciated!
