  2. I'm just wondering if any current/former students experienced any issues increasing the limits on their lines of credit? My tuition costs took a huge hike starting this fall, and I'm thinking that, by the time I reach my last year, I may need to ask the bank (I'm with RBC) for some more money. Just trying to plan ahead since my budget just went out the window...
  3. Hi guys, Matched to my dream specialty but will be moving to a different province. So far RBC hasn't done much for me - I didn't use the Avion card very much in first year, have a signature card, and overall the points that they offered can't even get me a one-way flight to Alberta. I want to switch my LoC and take full use of a good VISA card, particularly since I'll be spending a lot in the first month for the move, furniture, car winter tires, etc., and I want to optimize the amount of points I get for flights back home to visit the family. Can anyone recommend a good rep from Scotiabank in the TO area? Anyone who has switched LoC's...any tips so that I don't get scammed by RBC? Thanks everyone
  4. Hey guys, McMaster and U of T just released summary sheets of the offers by the big banks. I thought others would find them useful. I would have loved to have these when I was shopping around (although I'm happy with my choice). Enjoy, and let me know which offer you prefer/chose. https://www.scribd.com/document/317668524/U-of-T-Medical-School-Professional-LOC-Offers https://www.scribd.com/document/317668543/Financial-Information
  5. I recently finalized an LOC with RBC, and wanted to say I highly recommend going with them. RBC in Quebec has a VIP banking account available for med/dent students (comparable to other banks but comes with some great perks). Something to keep in mind: many institutions have similar, if not identical, plans/accounts for med/dent students, so it is the individual banker whom you will be managing your LOC with that matters. So for me, what made RBC stand apart was the representative I spoke with. I had a great experience with ioan Jurjan from the Peel and Sherbrooke branch, he's highly knowledgeable, has/does manage countless med/dent LOCs, and answers questions promptly. He definitely made the difference in me choosing RBC. Feel free to PM me with any questions!

  7. Hi All, On January 21/2015 Bank of Canada has lowered the Overnight rate target. Why does this matter to you? You will benefit for the short-term because the cost of borrowing is lowered for your educational/professional line of credit, mortgages and other variable rate lending products. It also affects certain investment vehicles. The prime rate has been lowered to 2.85%, it was previously 3%. Hope you find this info useful! http://www.bankofcanada.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/fad-press-release-2015-01-21.pdf Historical rates: Effective date Prime rate September 09, 2010 3.00 July 21, 2010 2.75 June 02, 2010 2.50 April 22, 2009 2.25 March 04, 2009 2.50 January 21, 2009 3.00 December 10, 2008 3.50 October 22, 2008 4.00 October 14, 2008 4.35 October 09, 2008 4.50 April 23, 2008 4.75 March 05, 2008 5.25 January 23, 2008 5.75 December 05, 2007 6.00 July 11, 2007 6.25
