  1. Hey guys! I'm an Ontario student applying for the first time applying to AMCAS. I know that it says you can add reference letters after you submit your AMCAS application. So, if I wanted to submit my primary application so that it can get verified (because I know I'm a bit late to the game and July is the busy season), am I able to just select "I have no letters to add" and then submit my application and add my letter entries afterwards. Or, is it best to add at least one or two of my references in now, before I submit.
  2. Hi everyone, Does anyone know if reference letters submitted one year are looked at again if you apply the next year? For example, if a prof submits a letter this year, will the admissions comittee see the letters they may have submitted last year? or even if a different prof submits a letter for me this year, will they see the letters from my last years' referees? Thanks.
  3. Hey guys, so I have 2 solid LORs from my research supervisor and the CEO of a physiotherapy clinic at which I volunteered. I am having a bit of trouble finding someone else who I believe can be a good reference. Someone I have in mind is a coach I have for a small cricket league that plays other local teams and stuff (ie. its not something that gets much attention or funding or anything. Mostly just recreational stuff). He has known me for more than 10 years, and can definitely attest to my character. I don't know if it matters for me to use someone like that, as he won't have a letterhead or any sort of position in a company if you will. I am trying to apply to the med schools in Ontario and was wondering if someone can chime in on this. Also, can someone guide me towards other options and who I should contact as my third referee? I am coming up with nothing atm as I already have a prof and a volunteer reference. Any ideas? Thanks.
  4. Hi friends, So I'm in a bit of a pickle. Due to financial constraints, the only volunteer position I have from after highschool is some private free tutoring I did for some students I was connected with through my employment. As such, I really have nobody to write me a community service reference. I'm thinking of asking my manager from that position, given that he is the closest thing I have to a "volunteer supervisor", and since my job involved a great deal of community service. Problem with that? My boss from a different job who wrote my OMSAS letters has dropped off the face of the earth, so I might need to ask my current boss (the same organization as the community service manager, but post-promotion and different manager) for my professional reference. Would it look crazy bad to have my community service reference and professional references be from the same organization?? Thoughts?

    No Referee Email

One of my reference letters will be provided by a physician I have been shadowing. I visited him to ask for his email address to put in for the referee information and he said that he can't give out his personal email and does not have a business email. I explained that I needed it just for this purpose and he said he couldn't make an exception and to use the clinic's address and information. The clinic itself doesn't have an email either so now I'm not sure what to do. Can I still download the confidential form without an e-mail address? Thanks!
  6. Hi all, I just looked up the MD/PhD application requirements and saw they need an additional 3 letters on top of the OMSAS ones that are specific to your potential in research. I've been out of undergrad for 4 years now and most of my letter writers are science faculty that I have conducted research with: MSc supervisor, collaborator + undergrad honors supervisor (also taught me 2 classes). I feel these people know me best both as a scientist and as a person since I interacted with them long-term on a near daily basis. Their letters would be much more valuable than any professor that taught me a class 4 years ago along with 300+ other students. My question is, do you actually need 6 individual referees for these letters or can you get the same people to write one letter about your potential for medicine and another for your potential as a scientist? If so, does this affect your chances at all? Also, do you need to have any non-science profs/volunteer coordinators or is it ok to get all-science? Thanks!
  7. Hi, Everyone, I'm about to submit my application to Manitoba, I have several referees already wrote reference letters for me for this cycle to other MD schools. Which 3 should I choose for Manitoba? 1. A family friend of my parents, who knew me before I was born, who is a MD in USA and will write me a VERY good letter. 2. A TaeKwonDo assistant instructor will write me a VERY good letter who I learned TaeKwonDo in my university for 2 years, twice a week, 2 hours each course. 3. A hospital volunteering services administrator,I think will write me a good letter, where I volunteered for a year, 2 hours each week. 4. A Ph.D. candidate and an instructor of my social study course for a semester with A- and will write me a VERY good letter. 5. A biology professor and associate dean of department who I have a semester course with A, will write a good letter, I think. 6. A biochemistry professor who I have a semester course with A+, will write a good letter, I think. 7. A horse farm manager, where I worked last summer, two days each week, will write me a good letter, I think. Any feedback is welcome. Thanks.
