  1. Hello everyone, Please allow me to introduce myself. I am an Alberta university student of African descent, and I am obviously as seen with my post interested in applying to pharmacy. I am currently completing my third year of studies in Biological Sciences and I am just wondering out of curiosity what the racial demographics of the U of A pharmacy school are? For instance, have the incoming classes been predominantly white, are there black students, are there Asian students, etc.? Also, I am wondering if there is a relatively even split of male-female students? I don't want to be the sole or one of the few minority students during the time I spend at U of A pharmacy school if I do eventually get accepted. Thank you all who answer for your time. Regards, An inquiring soul
  2. Hi, I'm a bit confused regarding LORs for U of C vs U of A and U of T. According to U of C's manual they would like each of the 3 referees to speak to a different set of attributes. While for U of A and U of T, I understand its just 3 generic LORs? In that case, would the referees have to produce 2 different letters (one for U of C, and one for the other 2 schools) or would the letters made for U of C suffice for the other 2 schools as they combine to speak to a comprehensive list of attributes? I figure its a lot to ask the referees to produce 2 sets of LORs but would really appreciate advice from past applicants on how they dealt with this? Thanks!
  3. Hey guys, To register for the CASPer test where do we find our University of Alberta Application ID (a number that starts w/ 160)? I can't seem to find it in any emails I've been sent and only have my CCID.

    What are my chances??

If anyone could help me out here that'd be awesome. I'm wondering if I should apply to pharm this year or wait another year. My GPA is 3.55, I am going into my fourth year, but will have one more semester left afterward. My last two years GPA is ~3.7. I have shadowed two pharmacists, volunteered in two hospitals, am a varsity track and field athlete, have a variety of other volunteering experience, etc. I also would be considered an IP applicant in both BC and Alberta and as such would like to apply to both UBC and U of A. I am wondering if I should apply this year or wait another year to increase my GPA. Thanks in advance for the help :))
  5. Edmonton-Downtown 2 bedroom condo -3.6 km to U of A Hospital. on the bike path. 10909 103 Avenue Northwest, Edmonton, AB, Canada find this fabulous condo on www.MEDShousing.com Listing ID #0007562 https://medshousing.com/properties/great-downtown-edmonton-highrise-for-rent/ This spacious, condo is perfect for young professionals looking for a central urban living. Medical Residents/Students are preferred. It’s located in a great area (on 104 ave and 109 st) in a steel and concrete high-rise on the 12th floor. It’s a block from groceries, and more importantly, it’s 11 mins bike ride (3.6km) to the University of Alberta Hospital, and an 11 drive to the Royal Alexandra Hospital. It’s right on a bike path and super close to restaurants, bars etc on Jasper ave. The neighbourhood is great (lots of residents/docs also live in the area/building) I loved living there, and had I not moved to Calgary for the mountains, I would have stayed there. It’s about 1200sq ft. 2 bed, 2 bath, with tile and engineered hardwood flooring in an open concept main living area. It comes with an underground parking stall and an extra storage unit on the deck (I have a lot of gear – I had no problem storing everything, AND winter tires). It is partially furnished with a couch, TV hutch and stand, bookshelf, side table, BBQ, dining table, bar and all the usual kitchen appliances, washer/dryer. I’m sure the current tenant would be amenable to negotiate selling some of his stuff. This condo is available July 1, with earlier move-in likely available. Not what you are looking for? lots more to see on www.MEDshousing.com

    Kinesiology At U Of A

i wanted to do a second degree in the bachelor of science in kinesiology, but after seeing what classes I have left to complete after all of the transferred credit it seems daunting. I really can't mess up my GPA in the next 2 years and have to keep it as close to perfect as I can. These are the classes i have left below. Any input would be appreciated as I'm really stressed about this decision.. Mostly I'm concerned about how I have to take them crammed into 2 years. For all of you who have done the kinesiology degree or are currently in it and have done these courses, how are they? Will it be difficult to balance these classes? Any input from other kinesiology programs not at the U of A would help me out so much! Year 1 1. PEDS 100 2. PEDS 101 3. PEDS 103 4. PERLS 104 5. PERLS 105 1. HE ED 220 2. HE ED 221 3. PEDS 200 4. 5Th Year At U Of A?

Has anyone been able to get around the following policy at the U of A?: "Students who have completed 120 or more and who have either not applied to graduate, or who have applied but have not met graduation requirements, are permitted to register only in those courses necessary to complete their current program as quickly as possible. Such students must have the written approval of the Associate Dean of Science for every course beyond 120 in which they register." wondering if anyone has successfully done a full 5th year with a fall and winter semester at the U of A.

    5Th Years Be Warned!

Hey everyone After a talk with a faculty of science advisor at the University of Alberta I realized that they have this new(?) policy/rule of forcing people who are trying to do a 5th year to only take the classes that they need to graduate especially after they've gone over the 120 credits needed for graduation. How do I get around this? Has anyone experienced or is experiencing the same thing? I asked them if they would actually force me to drop my winter classes and he nodded and said that yes that is likely what would happen. If I explained the situation to them do you think they would let me extend my time and balance out my classes over the course of a year? Has anyone had any experience with this? He said for every class I take after 120 credits I have to get written permission for each and every class... I would really appreciate any advice/help. Has anyone whose done a 5th year or beyond had this experience?

  11. Hey guys! I was accepted into both Queen's and the University of Alberta for PT. I don't know how to decide! Does any know anything about the Queen's program? I have had trouble finding much information to compare with U of A. Congrats to everyone who who offers!
  12. If you are reading this, CONGRATULATIONS! It means you likely got into meds/dents/residency program at U of A! Now it's time to look for a great place to call home for the next 4 years + ! My wife and I are relocating back to Calgary, so we are selling our condo. Before we bring on board a realtor, I thought I'll throw a post here. Let me tell you a little more about our condo first and see if it's something you are interested in: Address: 9917 - 110 Street. A concrete apartment building called Rosedale Place. Adult only. It's on 11th floor (out of 13), corner unit. 2 bed 1 bath, 775 sq ft, 1 heated underground parking spot included. Recently ungraded Kitchen and bath with Quartz countertops, under-mount sinks, SS appliances; new laminate flooring. Great location (please check it on Google Map), very safe and convenient. Basically downtown / university living without paying the premium of university real estate. Just to list a few: across the river from U of A; 1 block from transit station with 1 stop to U of A, 2 stops to Health Sciences/University Hospital; 3.6km/10 min drive to Royal Alex Hospital; 2 blocks to grocery store (Save-On-Foods); tons of restaurants within walking distance (Jasper Ave); walk to river valley/running trails... Available July 1st. My wife has been living there during her med school and residency, we can't say enough about the location. Please feel free to let me know if any questions. Pictures available soon. Cheers!
  13. I was wondering if anyone remembers when we're allowed to email the U of A admissions office to request our interview score?
  14. I got a dent interview at U of A, and I'm just wondering if there's anyone in Calgary who also got a dent or med interview, and want to meet up and practice? We can form a study group, and give each other feedback!! Let me know, we can either meet at MRU or UofC. Thanks!
  15. Does anyone have any advice regarding what Awards to list under the PA section? There are 4 slots so I want to put my best 4 out there, but I have no idea what Admissions are looking for ! Diversity? I could list a leadership scholarship, volunteer service award, athletic scholarship and research studentship (although I may use research in my work experience, in which case I wouldn't be able to use the research funding here) OR academic scholarship Prestige? Research and leadership awards are named awards, but the others are pretty generic Monetary Value? Academic and leadership scholarships, would exclude the awards that do not have monetary value I am leaning towards diversity, but the athletic scholarship has a low monetary value (~$500) so I don't know if that would be received poorly. I am a first time applicant so I have no idea what to expect for feedback, but it seems U of A is very harsh when it comes to Personal Activities Thanks
