  1. I recently finished my bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at the University of Waterloo and am now working on my master’s degree in the same discipline. I am looking to apply to medical schools in Ontario for 2020 entry and have signed up to write the MCAT on September 19 this year. It’s pretty lonely being a prospective medical student in engineering grad school so I was wondering if there is anyone else in the same boat. If there’s anyone in the Kitchener-Waterloo area, that would be even better.
  2. I was wondering if someone who did his pre-university studies (Cégep) in Québec and applied to the University of Waterloo could answer some of my questions. I would like to apply to the program of optometry in Waterloo but I don't know who I have to contact to verify if the courses I completed fulfill the prerequisites necessary to be eligible to the program. If someone could help me go through the procedure it would be great!
  3. Hey a future applicant here Just wanted to see the stats for this years applicants. Please post your stats and accepted/ waitlisted/ rejected if you don't mind, thank you. GPA: IP/ OOP OAT score: EC's: Year:
  4. Hello, I would really appreciate any advice that anybody could give me I am a student in grade 12 trying to decide where to go for undergrad in order to maximize my chances of getting into medical school and enjoy my experience during the next 4 years. I have offers from UTSG, York, Ryerson, and Waterloo for various programs. I regret not applying to McMaster, and wish I had as I just recently found out that they have the highest matriculation rate into Canadian medical schools. Considering the research I have done on peoples' experiences and perceptions of all these universities, I'm getting more and more weary and anxious of taking my chances and going to UofT in the fall because of the difficulty of maintaining a high GPA. I had initially wanted to go to UofT because it appeals to me the most course and program wise; I'm interested in pursuing a double major in Psych and Developmental Bio there. It also has benefits considering that its an internationally acclaimed research institution, it has affiliations with major hospitals, and would generally benefit me for ECs in my application. But would it be better for me to go to Ryerson, Waterloo, or York to avoid the impossible standards of attaining a high GPA? I also considered switching out to McMaster in second year, but the McMaster program seems to be similar in rigour to UTSG. On the other hand, my parents are urging me to attend an accredited and intensive medical school that accepts students straight out of high school in my home country. It would be beneficial in terms of being with my family, having guaranteed acceptance into medical school if I get in, and the early start on an intensive medical curriculum which would shorten my education. I am apprehensive of doing this for the following reasons: 1. I do not want to give up my experience in terms of extracurriculars, social science courses, and the treasured exploration of identity that Undergrad is known for (only slightly sarcastic) 2. I prefer Canadian society and life much more, as the university is in a conservative country and classes are segregated for the most part 3. I do not want to jeopardize my chances of getting matched into residency as IMG match rates are increasingly low in Canada and the US 4. The university awards an MBBS degree, so I'm not sure if that would dampen my chances of matching in Canada or the US So, I'm completely torn about which decision would be better for me academically and mentally, clueless of what university I'm going to be attending a few months from now. I apologize in advance for any sense of entitlement, errors, or ignorance that might come across from my cry for help :p.
  5. Hi, I was accepted to several undergraduate life science/medical science programs, but I am unsure about where I should go. If anyone has attended the following programs listed below, could you tell me about your experience? (e.g. quality of education, competition, bell curve, academic or extracurricular opportunites, atmosphere of the university/campus, etc.) For me, I feel like there are several pros/cons for each program/university, and I just don't know where I should go. McGill Life Sciences, Western Medical Sciences, uOttawa Biomedical Science, Queen's Science, Waterloo Biomedical Sciences, McMaster Life Science, McMaster Integrated Science. Thanks!

    Waterloo Interviews 2018

As interview invites just went out this week, I figured I'd start a thread for people who want to chat about interview prep! Anyone been through the process within the last few years and have any advice?
  7. Hi guys, I just finished my first year of university and am now a second year student! Do you guys have any suggestions for extracurricular activities at the University of Waterloo? I was involved with the pre-vet club last year. Thanks
  8. Trying to rank the three campuses (Hamilton, Niagara and Waterloo). I plan on ranking Hamilton first (e.g. more opportunities, less commuting, bigger city, etc.), but am not sure on whether I should rank Waterloo or Niagara second. Both seem about the same distance from the GTA, so the 10 extra minutes it takes to get to Niagara isn't really worth considering IMO. Any thoughts?
  9. Selling a recent version of Dr. Collins for $100. It's in perfect condition and very useful! Email: hermia.snow@gmail.com if interested thanks!
  10. Hi Everyone! I'm applying to a bunch of universities for undergraduate programs at the moment. I'm debating between attending two different programs at two different universities at the moment. The first program which I am interested in is the Co-op Science and Business program at the University of Waterloo. Of course, my ultimate goal is to attend medical school in Canada, but I think that having the business background will allow me to have a solid backup route in case medicine does not work out for me. The second program which I am interested in the Co-op life sciences program at the University of Toronto Scarborough. Now I know that U of T has a reputation for being "challenging" or "difficult". I do realize that this may possibly decrease my chances of getting into medicine. However, I do know people, like my own family members, who have gone into a medical school in Canada from this university. So I guess it's not completely unattainable. So at the moment I'm debating between both programs, but I am leaning towards the Science and Business program at Waterloo because of its uniqueness. Do you think that this may be an appropriate program to help me achieve my goal of attending medical school? Thanks a lot!
  11. I've never lived in Ontario and have virtually no knowledge of McMaster University or the surrounding area. On the very slim chance I do get the option to rank my campus choices, how would you describe each campus, and the pluses and minuses? My current city has a population around 300,000 but I have lived in smaller towns as well (~30,000). Thanks for any info!
  12. Hi, I'm currently studying at Montreal and I have 30,103 of r-score. I really want to get in to pharm so I checked the requirement in Ontario (University of Toronto,Waterloo...) and it says that I only need 70%/75% overall in every university courses. Since Quebec uses the r-score system, I was wondering how can I know if I make the cut or not. Thanks!
  13. I'm a Grade 12 Ontario student who got into Waterloo's BME program and life sci at McGill, along with a few other programs, and am having a tough time choosing. I'm interested in going to medical school in the future but would like to have a backup plan in case I don't get in the first year I apply, as I've heard competition for a spot these days is very stiff. I also have many severe food allergies and would have to cook for myself if I went to McGill. With this in mind, would it be significantly harder to get a high GPA in a Waterloo engineering program? Thank you!
