Thoughts on reasons for the shift? Lifestyle?

I think so. Increasing desire for lifestyle has led to more disillusionment with clinical medicine/surgery, and Radiology has only gotten more demanding and less rewarding over the years. Sure, in Path you'll probably be capped at 300-400k, have limited autonomy, and may not find the perfect job right away, but the work itself is much more comfortable than the rest of Medicine. People are finding the trade off to be worth it.

Wonder if there'll be a reactionary increase in Radiology applications next year for 2020. Happened just a few years ago when there was a nadir and everyone was saying the golden days for Rads were irrefutably over.

Also interested to see how this relatively newfound interest in Pathology will trend!
