Invite! MD
Time Stamp: 12:54PM
Location: IP
Stream: English
wGPA: 3.98
Current year: MSc (in final year)
ECs: TA'd 4 courses in UG, Lifeguard/Swimming instructor, 1 Pub, 4 poster/abstract presentation at International conferences, President of 1 club in UG, 6 years hospital volunteer

CASper: lol get ready for this, I literally practice everyday for 2 months straight and paid a bit of money for one of those prep programs. I still didn't think it went too well tho cause I didn't get Mac (probably cause 126 in CARS). I guess my CASper was okay but it still felt super rushed and I wish I said more for most Qs

Invite!
Time Stamp: 22/01/2019 - 12:49 PM
Location: IP
Stream: English
wGPA: 3.94 cGPA - not sure about wGPA
Current year: 4th year UG
ECs: a few leadership positions in clubs/community org, a number of  hospital/clinical based volunteering positions (most long-term), many experiences geared toward one population, some research (1 second author pub, no posters, or conferences), long-term employment (fairly unique). PM for details - I don't think my ECs are amazing but were good enough for UBC OOP

Casper: felt okay despite prepping quite a bit, didn't get a Mac interview with 128 CARS so definitely wasn't great!

Invite!
Time Stamp: 22/01/2019 - 12:49 PM
Location: IP
Stream: English
wGPA: 3.98wGPA
Current year: 4th year UG

ECs: Lots... Research (in sciences and humanities) - 2 abstracts, 1 national poster conference presentation, 1 literature review in preliminary stages. Hospital and community volunteering, president of 2 school clubs, hobbies, personal experiences, multiple awards (grades, leadership, community service, volunteering, CV), national organization representative for 3rd world helping organization... PM for detail.

Casper: Started off as being absolutely clueless. My first answers were pathetic. Practiced every single day for 3 hours, for 6 weeks. Got my typing speed from 55 wpm to 80 wpm. Real casper: definitely did not finish many many questions but felt okay coming out of it because of the amount of practice. If I did it, anyone here can do it! To both those who got invites and those who didn't, nothing is impossible :) We got this.

Stream: English
wGPA: 3.91

Casper: First time writing it. I have no idea how I did. Going forward, going to try to do more prep but its difficult to with an exam like this!

Overall pretty bummed about Ottawa since I'm a Canadian applicant with a sub-par CARS score... Always next year!!

Location: IP
Stream: English
wGPA: 3.9+

ECs: varied.  Very minimal research. Longer term employment, volunteer, exec for many clubs in undergrad, international volunteer work, etc. PM for more details

Casper: Felt pretty neutral about it.  Was enough to get Mac as well so must have been okay.

Third cycle applying and first cycle ever getting interviews. Hang in there everyone! I know how tough a rejection can be but you can make it happen! Keep working hard!

What did you differently..when you applied for the third cycle? I mean how was your CV different than first two cycles...

Honestly, I think pursuing a masters degree was a big help. I’m currently in my final year.  Besides that, maybe CASPER was better this year? My CV was very similar honestly. Used 2 of the 3 references I have always used, but switched one up.

If you ask me, I think this system (not just Ottawa, all med schools really) is incredibly flawed. So many good people are missed every year and my heart breaks because I know how that feels.
