ValérieP
Hello, i was just wondering if NOSM was exclusive to rural people , and also have anybody here applied as a francophone applicant ?
PirouetteCacahuete
I can’t answer your questions but I am a future francophone applicant also looking for feedback from (franco) applicants or admitted students
ER_Mike
It's not exclusive to rural folks. Around 90% of its students tend to be from Northern Ontario, and there are cities like Sudbury and Thunder Bay in Northern Ontario. The remainder tend to be from rural/remote locations elsewhere in Canada. That having been said, one would assume the odds are against you if you're from a non-rural locale that is also not in Northern Ontario. MDwannabe02
1/3 of your pre-interview score is “context” - basically, where you grew up. This score gets higher the more Northern Ontario-y and rurally the communities are that you spent time in growing up. NOSM wants docs in Northern Ontario, and the most current research tells them that recruiting from Northern Ontario helps achieve this goal the best. That being said, there are people each year from out of province and/or larger communities just like there are small numbers of people on the tail ends of any bell curve. Good luck! GH0ST
You have to consider the mission of NOSM is to provide better health care to the Northern Ontario region. Evidence has shown that those trained in the North are more likely to stay in their home regions where doctors are highly sought after. It's one of the main reasons I liked the school as it's built on a foundation of accountability, which is less emphasized over academics in major cities. - G
Healthgirl123
Does anyone know if it is better to be from Northern Ontario from a big city or central Ontario from rurally for the context score?

Thanks!
