Accepted/Waitlisted/Rejected??

Well, might as well be the first to post this year!

IP, applied during my 3rd year of studies. GPA at time of application = 3.78 (now higher).

34R MCAT.

Decent/standard EC's (1 summer of research, year long student leadership job, a handful of semi-lengthy (a year total for each) volunteering postions, lifelong/continuing commitment to several high level sports, music, etc)

I applied to U of A and U of C this year. Interviewed by U of C, rejected post-interview. Thought the interview went alright but not great.

Not that choked since U of C definitely isn't my 1st choice (I don't like the idea of a 3 year program). Gonna go finish my degree at U of A and apply again next year. Congrats to everyone who got in.

I'm so freaking pumped it's not even funny!

IP

GPA: 3.84 (3.93 for best two years)

29O MCAT - (10,10,9) sucks I know!

Pretty good EC's - have been working at the four hospitals in Calgary for about a year, and volunteering in the ER for a year as well. Also volunteered in other hospitals during my undergrad (I finished two years ago) and have a variety of charity involvement.

I applied to UofC, all Ontario schools, Memorial and Dal. Interviewed at UofC (accepted), Dal (no word yet) and Memorial (waitlisted). UofC was my first choice. On a side note - I was rejected pre-interview last year by UofC!

I thought the interview went very well, but I definitely bombed the essay! I've been out of school too long to write that timed stuff haha

I hope this will give hope to people with less than stellar MCAT scores... and also people rejected this year. My biggest improvement from last year was my ECs... I only had like a 13/25 on that section. The clinical experience paid dividends I think!

I guess I'll be seeing you all in July - I'm still in shock!!! :D

Accepted OOP to UofC!!

Here are my vitals:

Undergrad: GPA 3.85 from UofT

Grad: Ph.D. - Molecular Neuroscience (UofT) - publications in leading journals in my field

ECs: the usual - sports, activities, volunteer abroad (India) 2 summers, served on several student and university-wide committees etc.

MCAT: 12,12,12,T

Just sent in my signed acceptance letter and deposit - best thing I've ever mailed off in my life!

Such a total rush - UofC was my top choice.

Oh yeah, I know I'm going to open myself to some Flaming, but I'm also a huge Oilers fan!!!

Got accepted at U of C and waitlisted at U of A this morning (~8:50am for both). I applied to Ontario/Saskatchewan but As arent good enough there...you need A+. Seriously, you can't get an interview OOP in Saskatchewan with a transcript of nothing but As (not that I have that, but you need A+)

Lets see: IP 4th year applicant (BSc w. specialization in Psychology)

approx. 3.88 GPA

MCAT: 32P (9 on Bio (didnt take organic before writing it), 10 on Physical, and 13 on Verbal-I love reading comprehension, but hate mechanistic (i.e.grammar/ spelling) english.

ECs: Summer of Research (reluctantly), Minor volunteering, a few leadership but nothing crazy.

Interview: Went really well (study UofC student code of ethics!). Big Ups to interviewers who actually respond to what you say with positive feedback...keeps you talking and keeps your ideas flowing rather than talking to a brick wall - which happens at a few stations and nearly all of the stations at the U of A.

My advice is to love every school you apply to...so that in the interviews, you're pumped and do well (I was really pumped about U of C so I did well, but I wasn't feeling U of A at the time, so didn't do so hot)

Here's to accomplishing my childhood dream at the ripe age of 21.

So I guess I'm coming your way Calgary. I am totally going to fall in love with Friday night shinny! Honestly, hockey made me fall in love with U of C. U of A doesn't even do regular friday shinny!!!

Congrats to everyone who got in, see you on July 30! Keep on trying everyone...post-interview is almost like rolling the dice whether or not you get in.

I'm an IP in 4th year CMMB (done now). My GPA was 3.85 for four years and 3.97 for the best two, and my MCAT scores were:

Physical Sciences: 11

Verbal: 10

Biological Sciences: 13

Written Sample: R

I was accepted by Calgary, Alberta and Queens, just waiting for the missing Western email. This is my third (DONT GIVE UP!!) time applying to this school.

I applied to UBC, UofC, UofA, Western, Queens, UofT, Mac and Ottawa.

I was interviewed at UofC, UofA, Western and Queens.

Of all the schools I applied to, I have NO idea where I want to go to school!

I recieved an email at approximately 9:31 am this morning (and I was so hyped up to get one) then opened and it said rejection letter.

That really hurt I was rejected both by U of A (no email) and U of C (straight up). I am really hating life right now and am in complete shock, I cried hard all morning!!!!!

I have no idea what I am doing for the upcoming year but hopefully I can pick myself up enough to apply for a third round.

If you are a first time applier who got in the first time around, you are so freaking lucky to not have to go through rejection as it can really tear up and destroy your confidence.

I'm another OOP Waitlestee.

3.92 GPA for best 2 years

3.82 GPA overall

34Q MCAT (11PS 10VR 13BS)

I interviewed at UofM and haven't heard from them yet...

Note to all OOPers that have multiple offers:

I offer bribes...

Anyways, I just squeezed in for the minimum OOP calculation so this is no surprise.

True that! I was crushed the first couple of times. Hang in there though - if you are getting interviews than you are definitely competitive!

got accepted to UofC today. It's been a long process. this is my 4th time applying, 2nd interview @ UofC.

congrats to everyone that made it. and to those that didn't, keep your head up. If you want it bad enough, it WILL happen. It's a matter of plugging away. I work with a couple of very good surgeons who took >5 tries to get in, back in the 70's when it was still "easy"

Applied to U of A, U of C, U of S, U of M and UBC. No reply whatsoever from anyone but U of C.

13/13/13/P MCAT, ~3.4 overall GPA (biochem), 3.3 this year (couldn't cut THAT any closer if I tried!)

Apparently it IS possible to get in with a B+ average with a bit of luck.

Congrats to those accepted but don't give up if you got rejected. I swear that the application process seems designed to weed out those who are "just giving medicine a shot." If you really want to be a doctor, keep trying and you'll eventually be rewarded.

I got accepted to UCalgary today and am so excited!! This was my second time applying and first time receiving an interview. I'm not sure what this says about me, but I don't even know what my GPA is!! My MCAT was low at 29R. I have a lot of ECs, research, publications, a few years working in public health and other areas of healthcare.

For those who feel a bit demoralized after receiving a rejection today, remember that A LOT of us who received acceptances have also been rejected in past years. Persistence definitely pays off.

Congrats to everyone who got in - I look forward to getting to know you all in the coming years.

I have to echo Rock*'s comments though - don't give up.

I spent 6 years doing a Ph.D. (after getting rejected/waitlisted in undergrad) and it really did help with getting in. I went to really good lab that does hardcore science and learned how to think and act like a professional. I also had fun and made great relationships with people who are leaders in their field. Grad school was totally worth it, and I would do it all again rather than go directly to med school right out of undergrad.

You will get in if you can really show that you are totally devoted to medicine and a lifetime of learning.

Accepted! (sorry for not posting yesterday - I was too excited and the forums were down when I checked anyway)

Here's my stats:

IP (barely :))

Graduated June 2007 from U of T, cGPA 3.57 (3.48 UCalgary scale) - Chemical Physics Specialist, Math Minor, lots of breadth courses (History, Philosophy, PoliSci)

2 years research (Sept-Apr) + 1 summer NSERC

MCAT 33S (13 PS, 10 VR, 10 BS)

Strong (IMO) non-medical experiences: President (and other positions in earlier years) of College student society, Frosh Week planning executives, lots of one-to-one Peer Mentoring, "First-year Learning Communities" mentor (for those that don't know U of T - worked with a group of 24 first-years all year long, running workshops, doing one-to-one counselling, and so on), Volunteer facilitator in a therapy program for abused kids, Black Belt in Karate, Asst. Instructor in Women's Self-Defense and Kids' Anti-Bullying Programs through Karate school, Rugby team captain, 5 years bartending, International travel last summer in Europe

Medical experiences: Volunteering in ED, been working for the last year at Alberta Children's Hospital

But more importantly, I felt like I nailed almost every MMI room ;)

...

Took my form and deposit in to the admissions office yesterday afternoon... SO EXCITED TO START!!!

EDIT: I guess I should also mention the "elsewheres" - Applied to all Ontario schools and rejected pre-I, waitlisted at RCSI, accepted at UC Cork (declined the offer), tried a few random US schools and was rejected pre-interview everywhere (possibly my GPA/MCAT, possibly the fact that I applied in November)
