nolongerpremed
I sent an email to my preceptor saying Hi Dr. [ First Name] instead of their last name... Should i send an e-mail apologizing? Will it be considered rude?
bearded frog
If you have no prior relationship then its more professional to address a superior by their title-last name, ie Dr. Lastname. If they tell you to use their first name then its fair game. I think if it was a mistake then unless you know that that person would be upset with that then I wouldn't draw attention to it but be sure to prominently use Dr. Lastname on your next correspondence. BigM
I can say that I wouldn't be offended by that. If you used the title doctor but then called me by my first name, I would assume that you probably just had a slip up, but it wouldn't be a big deal. Just make sure to get it right in the next e-mail, or if they reply to your email, send back something saying Thanks Dr. Lastname. You can certainly send another e-mail with a brief apology if it makes you feel better, but I wouldn't lose sleep over this one.
blah1234
Usually go with Dr. Lastname unless we are close and have a good relationship. But I wouldn't lose sleep over this. A really minor slip up.
