Advocacy Reference - Retail Manager?

Hey everyone, I'm thinking of using my manager at my retail job of 4 years for the commitment to community and advocacy reference. Is this a bad idea? Due to the nature of my volunteering and EC activities, I don't have a "volunteer-related" person who can provide me a strong reference. However, my manager could talk about me going out of my way to help and support customers co-workers etc. Has anyone successfully had this type of commitment to community and advocacy reference in the past? Thanks.
