Congrats to all those with good news. Regarding the waitlist at Wayne State, there is still a decent chance for acceptance. I spent the entire cycle on the list last year without getting off so I know a bit about how it works. At the end of the cycle (I think April/May), they cut the waitlist and reject people at the bottom. If you're not cut, you're on the "final" waitlist that carries right through orientation week. At my interview this year, I was told I was just a fraction away from getting called last year - so you really never know. Good luck!

I am planning to apply again the coming cycle if I don't get off the WL. If you don't mind me asking, which part of your application did you improve from last to this cycle, i.e. GPA, MCAT, EC and/or essays?

Are american schools easier for Canadian's to get into than Canadian schools? Do they have lower standards with respect to GPA, MCAT, EC's?

-I think I've got a decent shot in Canada but I am just looking into options in case I get sad news from all my interviewed schools in May..

Lower tier are easier to get into

Mid tier about the same difficulty.

Top tier more difficult.

Generally ranking is by research $$$:

Loosely speaking, you can take top 20 to be top tier, next 30/40 to be mid and the rest to be lower. That said, research $$$ is far from indicative of a good education...but it is a good way of understanding which schools are more competitive. (Note: some do not consider us Canadians)

 

Finally, with your stats you'd be able to apply to any school you wish. We're talking about a 4.0/36 and that (with good ECs) would get you into at least a few kickass schools.

I just registered to let you guys know that there is waitlist movement already. I got off the Albert Einstein waitlist this morning (March 23rd). I interviewed January 21st and was waitlisted February 28th. 3 weeks on the waitlist?!!! Craziness!

I am currently studying at Chicago Medical School, and I have really been enjoying my time here. I've always preferred the small community feel, and really missed that during my undergrad at a big institution. You'll get your MD no matter where you go, but that's only one milestone along this lengthy but rewarding journey! All the best.
