Some interesting pre-interview stats...

Recommended Posts

I was reading a previous on whether getting interviewed on a how sunny day vs a rainy day could affect your interview score (http://www.cmaj.ca/cgi/content/full/181/12/933#R3-20). I noticed that the authors included a link that contained some stats on the pre-interview scores of all interview candidates from 2004-2009 (http://www.cmaj.ca/cgi/data/cmaj.091546/DC1/1). They include the mean and standard deviations of the extracurricular score, gpa score, and overall academic score (out of 60?). They didnt have an average of the writing score but apparently 15-16% of applicants was within 1 point of perfect. It looks like most ppl who get interviews have a pre-interview score around 80-90?

Well now. This is interesting. I haven't had time to really peek around the document yet, but one interesting point from the table you posted is that approximately 19% of applicants had an "excellent" wGPA, from 3.95 - 4.00.

I notice this as well.

However, this could be simply a method of categorizing GPAs for a study, and may not be reflective of how GPAs are considered by Toronto for admissions purposes.

I love stats like this. Thanks for posting takashi. Two points of interest to me:

1) No score for the letters of reference considering the big role they play according to theses forums (... especially this year)

2) Average mcat score of 32.7 rivals that of Queens or Western even though they have higher "cutoffs" than the 9/9/9

Reference letters do play an important role. Those stats just provided the total academic/EC scores for applicants, and didn't include the breakdown for each section.

I have never thought of this before. Weather has something to do with the admission interview results? I have seen the statistical data provided from the website. It shows that there is not much of a significant difference in the data. There’s only around 1% of difference in most of the comparison. Could it be that the research is not retailed enough, or we need a greater sample size to get a more accurate result? Anyway, this is a very interesting topic. I would love to see the conclusion of this research.
