Link
hey everyone Has anyone been notified that they have been "officially" rejected or waitlisted for an interview by email or snail mail? MAINLY curious about the waitlisters...i have received no news...
carraci
Don't waitlist offers happen only after interviews?
Cuilin
I think what Link means is has anyone been waitlisted FOR interview, not for offer (e.g. if people turn down Mac interviews then spots open up for other potential interviewees). I sincerely hope this happens! Anyone?
sprinkles
what I don't understand is why anyone would turn down an interview?! Say you were lucky enough to get interviews at like 4 universities. Would you then say 'well I'm guaranteed to get in now! so I'll drop 1-2 of the interviews" ?!? I mean even if you DO all 4 interviews there is NO guarantee you will get into any of the schools....so why give up an oppertunity? It just doesn't make any sense to me :/

It just doesn't make any sense to me :/ There are people whose top choices are American schools and they may have already been accepted there. Canadian schools may have been a backup for them, so they may turn down interviews (I know a couple ppl who did this in previous yrs)
Cuilin
UK med schools, depending on interview dates, have also already given out offers.
Ms_Sunshine
In previous years, Dalhousie results came out before the Ontario interviews (not sure if that's still the case), so some people accepted there turned down Mac interviews. Also, some school did not allow rescheduling (once again, not sure if that's still the case for some schools) so applicants with conflicting interviews had to decide which school they were going to interview at. sprinkles
oooooh. thank you for the explanations. haha Yah well I can see why you would decline with an acceptance in your hands! P.S. Why does Canada's process always take sooooo long
Link
hey everyone, your replies have been helpful in understanding the waitlist for interviews at mac...also, has anyone received anything in the mail about rejections yet? Cuilin
I haven't yet...seems like their office is going to get a lot of calls/emails tomorrow... Not tomorrow, dassy. Their website states if you haven't heard by the 10th of February, email them (they don't say to ring them).

So was it determined that they have a waitlist? I only read that people turn down interviews if they have offers elsewhere (logical), but not that Mac fill the empty slots. (Unless theres a HUGE amount of people who decline which I dont think they will) Maybe that just makes it 'easier' for those who got an interview? (better odds) I wish they would post in their annual stats how many people turn down interviews!!!

hemogoblin
Not sure why someone would want to turn down an interview... An offer I understand, but an interview? It does happen. Last year I got accepted elsewhere before my Mac interview date, so I declined my interview. I also know of other people in my class who did the same. Dr_Scully
Officially rejected by regular mail, received the letter yesterday (Feb 02). I'm in the GTA. No emails sent. Nothing about an interview waitlist, if there is one. It says they got 4200 applications this year..yikes..no wonder...

Alberta_Student
Hey, just thought I might be able to help clear things up. I got my letter in the mail today (February 6) from McMaster. I have been added to the interview wait list, so it certainly does exist. It also specifies that if any spots open up, they'll notify wait listers by email/phoning in ranked order to come by for interviews.
dac11
I was also waitlisted for an interview - OOP (snail mail). Does anyone know whether Mac reserves OOP seats once you reach the interview stage or is it a clean slate and everyone simply gets ranked for admission regardless of IP/OOP status? optimism101
Once you make it to the interview, everyone is considered the same, I emailed Mac about that before I applied
yugerry
+1 on the above comment. In some schools there is a different policy.
dac11
Is anyone clear about the deadline for those invited for interviews to confirm? I imagine we'll see the most movement of the waitlist at this time?
