trojjanhorse
There has been about 20+ new threads in the month of september alone, and september hasn't even reached its end. I figured it would be ideal to have all of those threads in one thread so that it would be easier for them to browse through. Here is the admission stats for the class of 2015. The Verbal MCAT average for the class of 2015 is 10.55 The OMSAS cGPA (all courses are taken into account, even during summer) average for the class of 2015 is 3.75 CASPer scores are held private so we have no scale to offer you premeds. This year, interview invites will be based on 32% OMSAS cGPA, 32% Verbal, 32% CASPer, 1% Masters, 4% PhD. After the interviews, the scale changes to determine admission as follows: 15% cGPA, 15% Verbal, 70% MMI. NOTE THIS: The class of 2015 had a different scale. It wasn't 32/32/32/1/4. Instead, it was 25/25/46/1/4. cGPA/VR/CASPer/Master/PhD. So what does this mean for you? It clearly indicates that VR and cGPA will have more of an effect on your interview invite. So expect the VR and cGPA average to go up for the class of 2016

trojjanhorse
Thank you Trojjan! I really hope that this reduces the number of threads. lol you're usually the one who always responds to those threads anyway. Might as well do it in one thread. RickRaws
Level: UG 3rd year GPA: 3.98 MCAT: 10 VR (14 PS/13 BS) Average chances?
trojjanhorse
Level: UG 3rd yearGPA: 3.98 MCAT: 10 VR (14 PS/13 BS) Average chances? I'd say score average on CASPer and you should get an invite. Unfortunately the PS and BS do not contribute to McMaster's decision for invite. Savac
Level: UG 3rd yearGPA: 3.98 MCAT: 10 VR (14 PS/13 BS) Average chances? Wow, you have almost the exact same stats as me. You better have a good chance, for both our sakes In all seriousness, you're in excellent shape. lol you're usually the one who always responds to those threads anyway. Might as well do it in one thread. Yeah, I've been trying to answer all of them. Unfortunately, there have been so many that I've become much less helpful. w_robin
Level: UG 3rd yearGPA: 3.98 MCAT: 10 VR (14 PS/13 BS) Average chances? For you, it all comes down to CASPer. I'd say that as long as you score slightly above average, you would likely get an interview invitation.

cdawso23
In province. Starting my 4th year now. GPA: 3.67 Verbal: 12 I know my GPA is bad...could my verbal and (hopefully) a good CASPer score make up for that?
trojjanhorse
I would think so. A good CASPer could give you an invite. Last year, there were few students with 3.5s who got admitted even.
EnigmatiK
OOP GPA: 3.7 MCAT: 14-8-14 R I know I really messed up on the verbal so is it even worth applying? I know people who got in with 9s but that 8 is really irksome .

Savac
Oh, I didn't notice the OOP portion of the post. Since only a small percentage of OOP applicants are admitted every year, an OOP applicant needs to be very competitive.
EnigmatiK
Thanks guys, I don't think I'm gonna waste my money applying for this year! Maybe rewrite the MCAT and apply next cycle.
Savac
Thanks guys, I don't think I'm gonna waste my money applying for this year! Maybe rewrite the MCAT and apply next cycle. Your MCAT score is still competitive for several other schools (especially in the US). It's something to keep in mind before you rewrite with a 36R, but ultimately the decision is yours. trojjanhorse
It's a very tough situation to be in with that MCAT score. Is states out of the question for you?

What province are you from? Do you have any rural background? Calculate your aGPA for Manitoba and see if it's ~3.9. With your MCAT score, you definitely have a shot of getting an interview. EnigmatiK
I'm an Alberta student so I'm going to be applying to Calgary but gonna see how that goes as they also heavily weight the Verbal section. I'm also applying to Manitoba, I have somewhat of a rural background (spent 4 years in a small town and did the last year of high school in a small town). I actually wouldn't mind US med schools at all, but I'm not sure if many accept Canadians? It's gonna be a tough call with the MCAT, I don't want to spend another summer studying for the MCAT as I would like to work and pay off some debt. You just have to search on here to see which ones are more Canadian friendly. I think you have a pretty good shot of getting an interview at Manitoba. Put NOSM on your list too since you have a rural background. They love that I would not suggest an MCAT re-write. Verbal is risky business. You might even end up with a 7 next time. There is also a possibility of 10+. You never know. But with your 14s in BS and PS I wouldn't do a re-write. But that's just my opinion.
