Interview Invites 2014 (Official Thread)[Ref Post#1: Means/Standard Deviations]

Rejection

Stream: French

wGPA: don't know - around 3.65 or so. met the cut-off for French.

Current year: Masters atm

ECs: health policy research, volunteering in hospital, advocacy work for medicare, a couple of poster presentations, one article in review, some awards/certificates (studied at Glendon so also got a bilingual BA, and a certificate of bilingual excellence)

 

After 2 years of pre-interview rejections, I was really banking my hopes on Ottawa. Good luck to those who got invites.

ECs: Two summers of research (no pubs), volunteering in hospital ER, really good leadership experience, recreational sports, and small but meaningful awards.

 

Très excité pour cette entrevue! I'm going to have to brush up on my french.

ECs: Many academic based scholarships during UG, several scholarships during MSc including NSERC, 4 pubs (not first author), health related volunteering >2 years, shadowing, exec of 2 campus clubs during UG, tutored 3years, many local and international conference presentations and abstracts, employment in research oriented field and non research oriented fields, cycling.

ECs: I filled my top 3's as best as I could, had an empty spot in employment and research...otherwise had research, hospital volunteering, some miscellaneous activities, average at best in my opinion but not sure at all on how they compare

3 yrs working as a dentist, 8 yrs working in a pharmacy, 6 yrs hospital volunteering, 1 yr research assistant volunteer, 1 yr research assistant paid, private tutor volunteer, part of dental interview committee, volunteer dentist, UG and professional school club members, UG thesis, some more but I forget

ECs: 4 years working as a lifeguard/swim instructor, hundreds of tutoring hours, volunteered in a urology lab at SickKids for a summer (abstract published), intramural sports, member of many clubs and exec of one, frosh leader for 2 years, volunteered in a neuro lab at my uni for a summer, did co-op at sunnybrook in gr 12, ran a marathon once lol.

 

Not surprised. Only applied this year for practice. Got an NSERC for this summer so that should help. Gotta up my community volunteering too.

ECs: I view them as somewhat typical. Overseas medical mission for 1 month. Vounteering with youth, microbio ta for 2 years (4 terms), student society exec, peer mentoring/ exec position, drumming for church, volunteering in a lab for a few yrs without publication, no significant scholarships or awards.

 

So excited to get an interview.

MCAT: 14/11/12 (PS/VR/BS)

ECs: Some leadership positions, non-medical related volunteering (education and developmental issues clubs), some student govt. positions, working in residence. No hospital volunteering

Year: 4th year undergrad

Geography : IP OOO
